Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Game 121/162

The World Champion Boston Red Sox are in Southern California tonight to take on the reigning American League Western Division Champion Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

This is the OFFICIAL Game Thread to post your observations on this evening's contest

Tim Wakefield will look to avoid his tenth loss of the season, as Bartolo Colon pursues his sixteenth win

Thread Topic: Which players on the Angels would you cast as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo?

My Runs 'n Hits Picks for tonight: LAA: 7/12, BOS 2/9

Random selection from my ipod from whence you mightdivine inspiration to underscore a narrative thread about the contest tonight:

What's My Name by The Clash from their self-titled debut

I tried to join a ping-pong club,
sign on the door said all full up!
I got nicked, fighting in the road
and the judge didn't even know
What's my name

another couplet from that song
this one speaks more directly to the Angels:

celestial beings: 5/9
clown footwear: 1/8

Dive
Dive for the ball you asshat!  Didn't you watch the Jays last night, throwing their bodies all over the place and saving runs?  It's not like if you get hurt the team is going to suffer.

Grrrrr....

Hate and War
The only thing I got today....

Something Wong
I had heard she was a bitter pill at times.

Okay, just exactly how wilfully stupid is Rex Hudler?  We have to be patient with Finley?  Tut-tutting about how people want "instant gratification?"  It's August 18, you stupid corksucker!

FINLEY
won't dive, pops up - and the AUTOMATIC Rex Hudler apology - Hudler sounded like a guy who talks nervous to the cops while his friend is holding up the 7-11 - rattled on, reflexively, nervoulsy, high pitched voice, you could almost hear the sweat drip - it was just TO weird - and suspicious.

apologia
Maybe (hopefully?) Hudler recognizes Finley as his mirror image -- a mediocre 40-year-old on his way out of an otherwise classy organization....

The Punter, yeah.....
he'd have made a dive for that ball, but that's the problem.  Besides being one of the best 1B in baseball, he's there so he doesn't spend half the season on the DL.  All this talk of moving him to CF scares the shit out of me.

I hate Hudler and Physioc with the fire of all the suns in the known universe.  It's as if having to actually do a ball game gets in the way of bouncing kids on their knees and interviewing media ho's for Fox bullshit.  Gah.  Fire them both, stat.

It's hard to imagine but the Angels once had Dick Engberg (in his prime) and Don Drysdale calling games.  Now these two asshats are doing it.

Hate and war
I hate Physioc
Hate and war
He's just as bad Rex
Hate and war
I hate all their talking
Hate and war
I wouldn't even have sex
Hate and war
With either of those gasbags
Hate and war
Who piss me off so bad
Hate and war
I just wish they'd shut the fuck up
Hate and war
They're really, really sad

Sorry, "sex" is the only think I could think of that rhymes with "Rex".  It scans OK, I guess.

You like the word "asshat", don't you?

Finley at the plate
Steve K. Finley, that is.

Blasphemy
Dear Jesus,

Please come back to earth and shoot Steve Finley in the kneecaps.

Your pal,
Sean

He didn't come through, I assume?
When I saw that it was Finley up, I just assumed a double play would be forthcoming, so I left the room.

Um.....
There's a lot of weird people with too much time on their hands and HTML skills in this world, isn't there?

Sorry, I'll try to vary my invective.

CF
Sorry to return to the subject of baseball, but why doesn't Scoscia just play DorkVannon there unless he does a Chone CF/Maicer 3B thing?

by Jim @ Halos Heaven on Aug 18, 2005 8:34 PM PDT reply actions

I don't think Mike much cares for DaVanon
The .355 doesn't impress him much.

by Pearly Gates on Aug 18, 2005 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Hahahahaha!
The Angels should sign Manny--he'd fit right in their outfield.

by Jim @ Halos Heaven on Aug 18, 2005 8:36 PM PDT reply actions

Yes!
Put this baby to bed.  Oh wait, the Arson Squad might still get involved in this.

Juan Rivera
Finally, somebody figures out how to Finley-proof a rally!

OBP
With the rise of sabremetrics, I've become an anti-stats person.  What's considered a good OBP? Thanks.

by Jim @ Halos Heaven on Aug 18, 2005 8:53 PM PDT reply actions

The Angels' team OBP is .325
And Guerrero leads the team with a .386. So DaVanon stacks-up pretty darn well.

by Pearly Gates on Aug 18, 2005 9:51 PM PDT up reply actions

A great inning
  • C. Figgins flied out to center
  • O. Cabrera walked
  • O. Cabrera stole second, O. Cabrera to third on D. Mirabelli's throwing error
  • D. Erstad singled to deep left, O. Cabrera scored, D. Erstad to third on left fielder M. Ramirez's fielding error
  • V. Guerrero intentionally walked
  • B. Molina singled to right, D. Erstad scored, V. Guerrero to third
  • C. Kotchman singled to catcher, V. Guerrero scored, B. Molina to second
  • M. Myers relieved T. Wakefield
  • J. Rivera homered to deep left, B. Molina and C. Kotchman scored
  • S. Finley grounded out to first
  • A. Kennedy struck out swinging
  • End of Inning (6 Runs, 4 Hits, 2 Errors)

by Rev Halofan on Aug 18, 2005 8:53 PM PDT reply actions

Yikes!
So Finley's .271 OBP really sucks, eh? :-)

by Jim @ Halos Heaven on Aug 18, 2005 8:56 PM PDT reply actions

The Punter...
keep the boy at 1B.  DaVannon, Chone, Rivera, whoever, can play CF.

by Jim @ Halos Heaven on Aug 18, 2005 9:12 PM PDT reply actions

Que?
"Donkey dick"? Say what?

by Jim @ Halos Heaven on Aug 18, 2005 9:13 PM PDT reply actions

sorry, I thought you were talking about Jim Thome. :-)
