Bud Black Interested in Managing Job
In today's L.A. Times:
No God!!!! Please take Hatcher instead!!!
Seriously, this would be a huge loss. I give Stoneman a lot of credit for picking up mediocre or undervalued pitchers who perform well for the Angels, but Bud probably deserves a lot of credit, if not most. Conversly, Stoneman seems to struggle picking up hitters, however Hatcher probably deserves a large part of the blame. We cannot afford to lose the leader of the most consistent part of our ballclub over the last several years.

San Diego?!?!
If Bochy were to move on, San Diego would be a perfect fit (at least from Buddy's perspective). He actually lives in San Diego County; his desire to remain close to home (and his kids) was cited as a motivating factor in his decision not to pursue managerial openings in east coast and mid-west cities.
How embarrassing for Bochy
Go To Bleed Cubbe Blue...
Sandy Alderson is asserting himself in San Diego and has very recently said he wants a manager who thinks like he does, i.e. he wants someone who worships at the sabremetrics altar. I wouldn't be at all surprised if both Towers and Bochy are let go if they don't find other jobs first. This would clear the way for DePodesta to DeConstruct yet another N.L. West team, and also very possibly hire Terry Collins, which is what he was about to do when McCourt canned him. Unless Bud Black thinks like Alderson, he's got no shot at the San Diego job.

Build around Hee Seop Choi?
DePo
- Hee Seop might actually be OK against RHP when healthy, and that was all that was ever expected of him.
- GM's effect often takes a few years to become apparent. I feel the 2004 division title was more the work of the previous GM, and the 2006 division title actually had DePo's fingerprints all over it. The awesome Dodger farm system is in part DePo, nothing to do with Coletti who is pissing it away.
- DePo was not given a fair shake, they should have let him serve out his deal to really know if he was any good. I am not aware of any truly awful deals he made, nor any really good ones (maybe Milton Bradley). Not giving Beltre all the cash sure looks good, lots of other GM's would have in LA.
- He did seem to not pay enough attention to which way the wind was blowing. I'll bet he never considered that the idiots responsible for his firing could do it. The one bad move in this regard seems to be dumping Shawn Green. He was super popular in LA, and they got nothing for him, they should have just let him play out his deal.
- We'll see how the Padres go to get more of a sense if Paul D. is any good, and I suspect he is.
Yeah, I Saw That...
