my insane dream free agent signings
This is my dream, i know we only have about 30 million to spend, so i am definitely dreaming, but this is my fantasy angel offseason.
1. Sign Jason Schmidt -
This guy is going to be 33 on opening day, he had a decent year last year, posting 11-9 record, 3.59 ERA, and 180 K's in 213 innings, while issuing 80 walks. Having a Lackey-Schmidt-Santana-Escobar-Colon rotation would be a great thing. (Saunders should be dealt)
2. Barry Bonds -
The guy will hit. And with him protecting Vlad, vlad's batting average will destroy. I'm sick of people thinking Vlad needs to be full time DH already, he played 156 games last year and hit .329 so stop being so scared. It's not like he's made of glass...
3. Package Rivera and Saunders for Carl Crawford, stick him in CF.
If we made these acqusitions, we'd still be left with a hole at third, but i don't want to see McPherson leave and hit another walk off home run against Kansas City, if he's traded it'll probably be in the LCS...
1b and 3b are still left empty in my opinon, i am dumbstruck.

insane as in BELLVUE
- A lot of other teams will value Schmidt much more than us, and when was the last time an NL to AL pitcher turned out OK?
- I'm all for getting Barry, as long as we have a clause that says if he goes to jail, we don't have to pay him. LH power plus walks is what we are most deficient in.
- I wouldn't mind getting CC, but why not just put him in LF? Just because someone plays LF well, they might do OK in CF, but not likely to be good.

Wins - a useless statistic on their own.

hmmm
But anyway my point is that every pitcher that goes from NL to AL seems to add at least a run to their ERA. So if they were great in the NL, they might be passable in the AL.

sorry
I'd put crawford in CF because anderson would be occupying LF because i'd have bonds at DH. I'd sell my soul for 14 million to get barry bonds for one year while some younger players develop for 2008.

i disagree with your disagreement
Not to say that Crawford is bad, he would be a nice addition, but there's no need to break the bank to trade for him.

You're nuts
Crawford's OPS progression has been thus: +10, +90, +19, + 30. His HR's: 5, 11, 15, 18. On top of that he averages 55 stolen bases a year. This guy would be a perennial All-Star on a winning team and is 2 years away from BEGINNING his prime. His ceiling is WAY higher than Johnny Rivers. He;s an elite player. Juan Rivera is a good average, above average power guy with a great arm, but not a game changer like Crawford.
He's also signed cheap for another 2 years. Now is the time to get him and lock him up multi-year until he's 30/31.
His superior range in LF might make a Soriano in CF viable as well. At the very least he would make Figgy expendable. Maybe we could package him with Mathis and Saunders for Wells. Then we'd have an ELITE defensive AND offensive outfield.

Dumb as a box of hair
- We have five legitimate starters, forming probably the best rotation in the American League. Plus Bartolo Colon. And we don't have to spend anything at all to get it. Why the hell do you need to enter a bidding war for a starter's decline phase?
- Your three players at the corner outfield spots & DH include a guy in his 40s, another with degenerative arthritis, and a third with balky knees. None of them plays good defense anymore. The Angels, if you recall, had some trouble with the ol' D last year. Also, they have a flyball staff.
- Rocco Baldelli has been hurt most of the last two seasons, and still Carl Crawford played only 8 games in CF (53 total for his career). If he was a viable center fielder, don'tcha suppose they woulda tried that out already?
- You just managed to spend $30 million without fixing the problem at 3B, while making the outfield defense worse. Congratulations!

Edmonds.
And yes, we got Kennedy who helped us win the world series, but Edmonds was definitely a fan fav and continually productive.

Soriano
But I sure wouldn't bet 15+ million per year that he can play there.
