Stoneman' Job on the line?

I know there has been a lot of speculation and wishes from some that Stoneman's job is on the line this year (His GMJ signing couldn't have helped) - but this is the first place I have actually seen it printed...

Arte's not the type for threats. If he decides to make a change, he'll make a change.

Because of course
a columnist for a paper in Colorado has better dirt on the Angels than any of the local papers.

If Stoneman leaves after 2007 it'll be because he's run out of ideas.  Arte might re-up him, but I'm not sure Stoneman really wants the job anymore; why else do you sign a 32-year-old with a career .249 average (prior to his career year, at 31, no less) to a five-year deal?

Fire Mickey Hatcher. An entire generation of Angels offense depends upon it.

Actually yes
a Colorado reporter MIGHT print better info - remember, the guys who follow the team around every day hide info all the time, they have to play favorites and play for special treatment to get interviews and quotes.

The local media might be the worst place to find out the accurate shadow side of one's favorite team...

Yeah,
and now that the Bish is retired we just won't get that type of journalistic dynamite locally anymore

The last time that happened
was when the Angels signed Vlad and the New York Post scooped the local rags on the deal. But there was a good reason for that: the Mets were interested in him, but had concerns about his back.

Can you think of another time a non-local paper has had a scoop about the Angels?  I sure can't.

With that cowboy hat
I would believe him.
GMJ step number one in a plan for continued dominance, or step number one in a plan for severe weight loss through explosive vomiting?

Who would be the replacement?
If Stoneman were to be fired, who would be some of the candidates to replace him?

If true
should make for an interesting/exciting next week at the winter meetings...
Please do something good this offseason...

Why wait a whole season?
I want a division champion as well next year. Since this roster most likely won't produce one, what's the point in keeping him around?

With the moves we've recently made, I see nothing to prevent us from being one of the least productive offenses in the AL.

Now that Scoscia made that phone call to Figgins, telling him he's the third baseman, and we've installed a journeyman in CF who had one decent year at the age of 32, the offense will be the same old weak garbage. We'll get to spend another year hearing all about "productive outs" and all that kind of junk, while other teams just flat out rake.

Let's ponder 3b for a moment. Thanks to Stoneman we now have Figgins at third. Here are some numbers from 2006 third baseman to ponder:

ARod: 35 HR's and 121 RBI's
Troy Glaus: 38 and 104
Joe Crede: 30 and 94
Brandon Inge: 27 and 83
Adrian Beltre: 25 and 89
Hank Blalock: 16 and 89
Mike Lowell: 20 and 80
Melvin Mora: 16 and 83
Eric Chavez: 22 and 72

The average: 25 HR's, 91 RBI's.

Figgins: 9 and 62

Third Base is a run producing batter's position. When you play the hot corner you're expected to deliver runs. On most teams it's ok to have a singles hitter playing short or second, because you're corner infielders drive in runs.

Except on our team. No, on our team we have first baseman who ground out to second, moving the runner to third, delivering the most productive outs in the game. That's what we have to look forward to for yet another season, situational hitting. Yippee, I can't wait.

How many third baseman in the AL hit 9th in the order?

As for our center fielder, here's what I'm thinking: we paid 50 million dollars for our center fielder. The Rangers let our guy walk away, and paid 13 million dollars for his replacement, a guy who consistently has produced better results from aproximately the same number of at bats. Who is laughing now?

I'll say it again: Why wait a whole season?

GMJ could revert to his previous self..
...but so to could Kotchman and D-Mac stay healthy and produce to their potential. Kendrick could hit .300 and slug .470 and Napoli might find a middle ground from his torrid start and awful finish.

Of course the pitching could take a step back too, in that case you're right, we'd be fucked.

No half a season with Jeff Weaver
even with a step back, it couldn't do much worse than that.  And Lackey and Escobar's W/L records would have to be better with a better offense, even if the ERAs moved around a bit.

Remember, replace Jeff with a .500 pitcher during his stint with us last year, and we'd have been tied in the division.  That's how bad he was.

Ringolsby
is rarely correct. His piece is always listed on the rumor site I visit, and is almost never even close to right.

Assuming that Arte would or did actually say that, I sincerely doubt that any fish hack would have that info. Further, if one of them inadvertantly stumbled across that little nugget, it surely wouldn't be this a-hole. I put more faith in Buster Olney... take that for what it's worth.

And BTW, anyone who thinks they look cool in a black cowboy hat is not to be trusted.
