I think I'm losing touch with baseball reallity
I just don't get it. The Yankees spend a fortune to be a fairly good team. But they can afford it.
Maybe there pining for Juan Marichal.

And isn't it a surprise and quite ironic
While the Cubs beg their Tribune Co. owners to engage in yellow journalism (to increase circulation and thus the club's payroll), the Red Sox burn $102 mil signing Dice-K, the Royals give Meche $55 mil and Zito gets more over seven years than the payroll of many teams, the biggest splashes the Yankees have made are signing Andy Pettitte to a relatively sane $16 mil/1 yr deal (the sanity comes from the short length) and Kei Igawa to a $20 mil/4 year deal (compare that to Zito's $126 mil).
Someone check Steinbrenner's temperature.
