Wally Joyner to Cooperstown?

A compelling HALL OF FAME WORTHY CASE for former Angel Wally Joyner (who is on the HOF ballot this year) has been made at a MLB Blog.

Check it out and tell me what you think...

It works as self-parody
but Joyner definitely never had HoF-type numbers.
Fire Mickey Hatcher. An entire generation of Angels offense depends upon it.

That guy
is seriously high.  I liked his line about the Angels needing a hero when Carew and TOMMY JOHN left in 1985.  Tommy John?!?!  Yeah, Tommy John was our hero, not scrubs like Reggie Jackson, Grich, DeCinces, Downing, or Boone.
Bring back Al Wisk!!!

All History
is Revisionist History, this guy just happens to be too early and the survivors are still around...

Goddamned rubbish
Going by what amounts to the author's best arguments, fellow first baseman Steve Garvey had 539 more hits, 68 more home runs, 202 more RBI, 31 more doubles, and hit for a higher batting average. All while playing in much more difficult park to hit, in an era where runs were much scarcer.

Similar stories can be told about Rusty Staub, Fred McGriff, Will Clark, Dick Allen, and many many others.

Further down in the nonsense is this:

In his rookie season, (1986) Joyner arrival led to a sudden increase in winning percentage from the previous year, from .556...to .568 and a division title. This is particularly significant as the team had lost Rod Carew and Tommy John, its two biggest stars from 1985.
Tommy John threw less than 39 innings in 1985. Carew hit .280, with 22 extra base hits. Meanwhile, four guys hit 20 or more home runs, Mike Witt went 15-9, and at least eight guys contributed more than either John or Carew.

He also thinks Wally deserved the MVP in 1986 for going .290 with 22 HRs, while The Rocket went 24-4. Also, he deserves two other MVPs, etc.

Garbage, garbage, garbage.

I can't wait for the season to start....
