Fight Photos

So I come home today from the office and read all about how the little worthless pile of crap Jason Kendall tried to start something with our boy John Lackey.

I think what this team needs, given our recent slump, is a good oakland athletic ass kicking.  And who else to beat than the most overrated, over paid guy in the game, Kendall?

The big question is this:  Why don't we have a photo of Lackey kicking the crap out of this guy on this site???

We need to see this!

By the way, the guys over at Athletics Nation are claiming victory for their wuss catcher.

Funny how the Halos still lost...
for the 5th time in a row. I give Kendall props though, Lackey is taller and heavier than Kendall and Kendall took him down while being talked himself.

Talked Himself?
Put down the Natural Light and type with two hands.

whateva
Kendall DID NOT take Lackey down. You Oakland fans make it sound like Kendall is fuckin Chuck Liddel. Have you ever been in a fight? When two guys get wrapped up like that they tend to just fall down for whatever accidental reason. Kendall happened to get lucky in that he partially fell down on top of Lackey. It's not like there was any kind of technique involved

if you watch the video
I watched this thing more closely than the Zapruder film.  Mathis actually takes down Kendall who by default takes down Lackey.  Therefore, Mathis takes down Lackey, just another reason to cut the rookie!  I kid, I kid.
"The last time we got in a fight, we won the Series," Lackey said. "I'll be OK with that. Let's get it rolling."

I was at the game
And the tension in that stadium was insane.  I've never heard such a loud collective gasp.

I think Lackey is THE man for grabbing that idiot by the face and throwing an uppercut.  Hearing the entire stadium cheering, "Lackey! Lackey!" was a pretty cool moment regardless.

And maybe I could even find it in my heart to give props to Mathis for charging in there to defend his pitcher.  Maybe...

How do you guys think this incident will affect the remainder of the Angels - A's matchups this season?

Aim for the wrists
too bad there are no good A's hitters to injure with a fastball to the wrists.

Our "wuss" catcher
Is probably one of the toughest guys in the league. I can't exactly agree with the fight, as entertaining as it was, but Kendall can take some pain. I.E. Last year in Texas, he dove head-first to save a win. And a few years ago, with Pittsburgh, he broke his ankle running to first, but put more energy into arguing with the umpire about being. He was also able to take down Lackey, who had half a foot and a good 30 pounds on him. Mock his armor and his utter lack of power, but he is by no means a "wuss."

edit...
...about being out than he did worrying about his ankle

Puss not Wuss
The funniest thing here is that the A's fans who all hate Kendall all have to defend his idiotic charging - and now he will be suspended (with no roster callup replacement) and I can't wait to see Scutaro catch a game or two and get injured.

Suzuki has to be excited about his pending callup.

Kendall pussed out on the A's when he pussed out today.

Well...
My take was something around "my god, one of our players showed EMOTION," and then... "my god, Kendall will be suspended!" Of course, I was watching from MLB GameDay, so I was more perplexed about the amount of time Lackey had a 1-0 count to Kendall and then the vague "A Melhuse hit for J Kendall."

And Moneyball "star" Jeremy Brown will be the next callup. Bad body catcher, yada yada yada. Still, can't argue with a 3-2 series count so far. We might not lose a roster spot exactly if Bradley is DLed retroactive to whenever.

Will do
Mock his armor and his utter lack of power, but he is by no means a "wuss."

Body armor = pussy.  It's very simple.

by LA Seitz on May 3, 2006 6:46 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

not to mention ...
body armor + no hitting skills to speak of + tendency to flap said armor-clad elbow in front of offspeed pitches + tendency to wig out when opposing pitchers call him out on his HBP game ...

I'm an A's fan, and occasionally a Kendall fan (K-Rod's sulk-off, the Texas face-meet-cleats tag), but I can't defend his action yesterday. It was positively Sciosciaesque.

Your wuss catcher
He was also able to take down Lackey, who had half a foot and a good 30 pounds on him.

Watch the replay again. Kendall didn't do shit except give Lackey a hug. Mathis took the fight to the ground trying to pull Kendall out of Lackey's headlock.

someone said it best yesterday
Where's Nolan Ryan when you need him?

A catcher using protective gear at the plate?  That's inexcusable.  Joke may be on us though if they both get suspended.  We lose one of our only good pitchers, they lose a shitty catcher.

It helps the A's
Nothing happens the Angels.  Lackey gets pushed back maybe a day.  If they time it right, maybe not even that.  But the A's get forced to take that waste of at bats out of their lineup for a few days.  Lucky them.

by LA Seitz on May 3, 2006 11:42 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Did Ryan get suspended
When he clocked Robin Ventura that time?

That was awesome.

Initially (live, from the stands) it appeared as though Lackey got a good one in before it became a general scrum, but on the replays not so much.  I was alternatingly hoping that Lackey would land a solid blow and that he wouldn't, so as to protect his pitching hand.
