Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Game 55/162

Game Thread - Angels at Indians - Escobar v. Lee - 10:20 in the A frickin' M

Star-divide

I wanted to write a 1/3 of the season summary after the 54th game, but the turnaround between Friday Night and Saturday Morning counter-cartoon programming precludes this.

Suffice to say that the last few games have made the thought of 24-30 slightly more bearable. If we win 2 out of every 3 left that is 72-36, good for 96 wins and the division.

Doable? If Jered-56 is this good, Escobar pitches like he is paid, Bartolo returns to 2006 form, and Lackey and Santana pitch with a smidgen of self-respect, I'd say we still need a bat to get to that win plateau.

Intentionally Altered Movie Lines:
Annie Hall: So you wanna go into the movie or what?
Jeff Weaver: No, I can't go into a movie that's already started, because I'm anal.
Annie Hall: That's a polite word for what you are.

No Kiddn' about Nap......Geez!

Nap deserves way more playing time, I understand Sosh wants to keep JoMo on his game but thats the problem......he's got none! Naps got a big time MLB eye at the plate, he's at least going to get on base even when he's not hittin'.

Halos 5/12

who are these announcers?
they are so boring, id rather have hud

by hathaway93 on Jun 3, 2006 10:53 AM PDT reply actions

Fox
standard fox generic announcers who don't really know about either team

by Matt UK on Jun 3, 2006 11:01 AM PDT up reply actions

Fox
Manning is the Tribes regular TV announcer. Does side work for Fox.

by wildchile on Jun 3, 2006 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

My bad
they didn't sound very knowledgeable though!

by Matt UK on Jun 3, 2006 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Manning
He's knowledgable he just hasn't got alot of exposure.  Ex Tribe centerfielder, 70's early 80's.

Jesus!
What a throw by Vlad.  That was amazing

Is terrible. thank god he is leaving.  Never heard a worse couple of innings of baseball broadcasting.

by ValisJason on Jun 3, 2006 11:08 AM PDT reply actions

how many times
have i been worried that we might get no hit this year?

by hathaway93 on Jun 3, 2006 11:09 AM PDT reply actions

These broadcasters
have serious man-crushes on Sizemore.  It's beginning to creep me out the way they gush over him.  It's like having 12 year old girls in there.

by HeyLegacy on Jun 3, 2006 11:13 AM PDT reply actions

Haha
too true - the main guy especially is drooling all over him

by Matt UK on Jun 3, 2006 11:14 AM PDT up reply actions

Did you catch this line?
"Sizemore: as in, no one SIGHS MORE than the ladies of Cleveland when Grady's up to bat."

Ughhhhh!

by HeyLegacy on Jun 3, 2006 11:16 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeh
horrible line! Dude even knew that Mrs Sizemore t-shirts were best sellers

by Matt UK on Jun 3, 2006 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions

is anyone sure
at least one of these guys isnt a cleveland broadcaster?

by hathaway93 on Jun 3, 2006 11:16 AM PDT up reply actions

Rick Manning
Is the regular Indians broadcaster.  The other guy is just a FOX broadcaster.

by foxpaw on Jun 3, 2006 11:21 AM PDT up reply actions

Pretty sure
I've heard the main guy on Fox before, and now you mention it I think the analyst guy was on the mlb.tv feed last night

by Matt UK on Jun 3, 2006 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions

Josh Lewin
Is the other guy, and I guess he broadcasts Rangers games normally.

by foxpaw on Jun 3, 2006 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions

Sizemore
If you had Sizemore, maybe you could make Erstad the regular first baseman, where he belongs!  He is a left coast kind of guy.  Unfortunately they just signed him to a long term contract.

by wildchile on Jun 3, 2006 1:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Erstad
I heard on the radio feed that when Erstad comes back he will be in center and that Fig will move back to 3rd.  What an F-ing travesty!!!!!!! Sosh is a complete idiot if that happens.

by higdog on Jun 3, 2006 11:20 AM PDT reply actions

Kelvim
is loving bouncing these pitches in front of the plate

by Matt UK on Jun 3, 2006 11:31 AM PDT reply actions

Sosh
I am getting tired of hearing Hud go on about how Sosh will play the guys who produce, then put in guys like Molina, Quin and bench Napoli.  Sosh is either stupid or doesn't have the guts to do what needs to be done.  He also needs to take the gloves off with GA as well. Enough is enough.

by higdog on Jun 3, 2006 11:32 AM PDT reply actions

only reason
nap isnt playing today is because its a day game after a night game, he will be in there tomorrow

by hathaway93 on Jun 3, 2006 11:34 AM PDT up reply actions

I think the Naps/JOMO situation
has more to do w/ the belief that a C should not have to catch a day game after a night game.  The Rally Killer moving back into CF may not be a horrible idea.  He deserves a chance to retain his spot but this may be a situation where Figgy looses playing time to Dallas if he struggles.  Then again The Rally Killer is a Sosh favorite and may retain his spot w/o producing at the plate.

by riktermiller on Jun 3, 2006 11:36 AM PDT up reply actions

Figgins loses playing time
to Mcpherson? He not hitting his weight.  Course Figgins isn't exactly tearing it up!

by wildchile on Jun 3, 2006 1:33 PM PDT up reply actions

What's GA done?
HR last night, only hit today so far - yeh he's lazy in the field but he's always been like that

by Matt UK on Jun 3, 2006 11:37 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree
He can't complain that the kids aren't "producing" when they aren't given consistent starts.

Napoli needs to be in there every day.  Maybe Molina knows the batters better since he's been around longer, but there's only ONE WAY that Nap will gain that knowledge... by starting more consistently.

I think D-Mac should be starting at 3B, against all batters... none of this swapping with Quinlan.  D-Mac might not be the most constant power hitter but I'll take him over Q at the plate.

by HeyLegacy on Jun 3, 2006 11:38 AM PDT up reply actions

Nap
Nap is only 24yrs old though.  Sosh likes the productive out better than the HR.  Sosh is tired of winning games 10-3.

by higdog on Jun 3, 2006 11:43 AM PDT reply actions

I think the worry is about the fate of
a guy like Jorge Posada.  Catching everyday had taken a huge toll on him offensively and having a competent back up in JOMO allows Sosh the ability to be TOO carefull.

by riktermiller on Jun 3, 2006 11:45 AM PDT up reply actions

competent?
is .179 really competent? but still napoli should NOT be playing everyday, hopefully it prevents him from his prolonged slumps that hes always had in the minors

by hathaway93 on Jun 3, 2006 11:47 AM PDT up reply actions

Not EVERY day...
but it was nice last year knowing that Bengie was most definitely the starting catcher.  And we'd just have Jose come in every few days.

by HeyLegacy on Jun 3, 2006 11:51 AM PDT up reply actions

Sosh
Seriously, if he's up 10-0 then who's going to want to squeeze or hit behind runners. Then GA can play 60% and Erstad can get RBI's by grounding out to SS.

by higdog on Jun 3, 2006 11:46 AM PDT reply actions

GA
is our second best hitter, he'll play everyday if hes healthy enough

Napoli
Y'all do realize that (1) catchers can't start every day and (2) his ankle is a bit tweaked, right?

Catchers almost never start a day game after a night game.  Naps started last night to catch Weaver, who he has caught several times.  So he gets the day off today, and should be back out there tomorrow, if healthy enough.

The worst thing is the day you realize you want to win more than the players do. -Gene Mauch

I posted the LOSE thread already
This one is over before it is over. And yeah, Napoli has a tender ankle, we have three in Tampa Bay after this don't forget. Stick a fork in Quinlan. He is done.
