Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Game 90/162

Game Thread - Devil Rays at Angels - James "Not Scot" Shields vs. Ervin "Black Magic" Santana - 7:05 p.m.

Star-divide

TB's Kazmir got an ache, a pain, a something that forced this rotation juggle. Still no word on whether Josh Paul will be rearing his ugly #8 onto the field.

Intentionally Altered Movie Lyrics:
Brendan Donnelly: You wanta go for a ride?
Ervin Santana: No thanks.
Donnelly: No thanks. What does that mean?
Santana: I don't want to go.
Donnelly: Go where?
Santana: On a ride.
Donnelly: A ride? Hell, that's a good idea. Okay, let's go. Hey, let's go.

A win = .500 record. This game's still crazy after all these years.

I thnik the Angels turn around
started when OC stole home... I think that did something to the team and woke them up.  Combine that with Lackey's new intensity and I think the zietgiest around the clubhouse changed.

last night
rev and i were marvelling at lackey's body language as he came off the mound at the end of an inning. his walk was so confident, self-assured, in-control -- he was displaying some of what i like to call "Raw Panther". cue the Iggy Pop!

by yeswecan on Jul 15, 2006 4:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I know
It's almost dismissive.  It's liked he's pissed the other team doesn't cede the game at the start and he takes out is anger on them.  He's the one pitcher I wouldn't charge the mound on.  You might get a Ryan beating like Robin ventura got that time... Not like Lackey is hitting anybody lately.  His location is pinpoint.

Blue Jays disinfect clubhouse after second player has staph infection
ROB GILLIES, Jul 15, 2006
The Toronto Blue Jays disinfected their clubhouse after being forced to place right-hander Ty Taubenheim on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an infection in his left foot, the second Toronto player to be placed on the DL because of a staph infection. Right fielder Alex Rios still hasn't rejoined the club since suffering a staph infection in his lower left leg in late June

by johnsamo @ Halos Heaven on Jul 15, 2006 6:52 PM PDT reply actions

but you forgot the rest of the article
that says the Health Department came in, tested everything including the showers, saunas and hot tubs and the cultures came back negative. They disinfected as a precaution. Rios' infection also did not come from the usual source, which is an open wound. They are still not sure of the source of the infection.

I feel bad for him
He had one hell of a AA run, shot up the Dodgers' prospect list, beat Randy Johnson in his first major league appearance (back when that meant something) ... and turned into a pumpkin.  Lost his command, started walking guys, became terribly hittable, and eventually got traded to the Devil Rays for a couple pieces of junk -- Danys Baez, their erratic closer, and Lance Carter, a bad reliever.

Looks like he got an out, though.

Thats why Mikey ...
sits our young'uns so much. So they don't get all excited like, and think they can rule the world.

Nice and slow. Slow and easy. Let them get used to the surroundings a bit first.

Assuming Erstad ever comes back
I don't see how we can afford to keep Salmon.  Would we actually send down a guy who plays in the field on occassion?

by johnsamo @ Halos Heaven on Jul 15, 2006 9:47 PM PDT up reply actions

what the hell you gonna do
DFA Salmon for 2 1/2 months?? get real-he's freakin retiring after this season.

by ladybug on Jul 15, 2006 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions

He's gone after this year
So put him in when he's useful--which he is--and help him try to reach 300. He's not worthless and never will be.

by Clutch on Jul 15, 2006 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions

for pete's sake......BE NICE
it's Timmy night, complete with jerseys, he's a sentimental favorite and it's his last year...give him a break. At least he knows when he is done. Mikey always lets some of the 'underlings' play when there is a big lead.

by ladybug on Jul 15, 2006 9:44 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah...
leave our Timmy alone!!!!!

by angelsrallymom on Jul 15, 2006 9:46 PM PDT up reply actions

He was done last year
Sorry, like to guy too, but time moves on, with a 25 man roster, can't afford sentimental dead weight IMO.

by johnsamo @ Halos Heaven on Jul 15, 2006 9:48 PM PDT up reply actions

He wasn't here last year
And you should realise that the front office also thought he was done after all the surgery, missing an entire season, etc., which is why they gave him a minor league contract and only guaranteed him a spot through spring training. He wowed everybody, so they let him stay. He knows it's his last year and is remaining adamant about that, even though some feel he's playing well enough to stay on.

by Clutch on Jul 15, 2006 9:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I have No Manners When It Comes To Salmon
So shut the fuck up. He's not done and can still be productive. Just like your asshole, apparently.

On any other subject, I'm civil. Here, I'm not, and won't apologize for it.

Thanks
Normally, I don't do stuff like that and really don't like it, but since Salmon is my wife's favorite player and he has gone out of his way in the past to be nice to her with signed baseballs, a jersey, pictures, etc., plus the fact he's been a very solid player and citizen for the Angels, I waived my own rules.

I hope you know
I am behind Timmy 100%. As he has said, he knows this is his last year and ready to go out in style. He is everything a ballplayer should be and what every rookie needs to aspire to be

by ladybug on Jul 16, 2006 10:02 AM PDT up reply actions

Without Lugo and crawford
would we have 2 no hitters?  Haven't seen anybody else do anything.

by johnsamo @ Halos Heaven on Jul 15, 2006 9:42 PM PDT reply actions

I worry about Shields and K-Rod
They're usually better the more action they get.  At this pace, they're just going to atrophy.

But as you said Ms. Ladybug ...
the Angels are now at .500

Do you remember how they looked in the dugout but 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Or how all the pitchers looked on the mound with all them holes in the defense.

I didn't have video tonight, but know how the team looked. Probably better than last night. But I know they got one load off of their backs.

Battles are won with tiny steps.

So now it is keep focused and play well, we can't do anything about the opposition.

wow Speil Czech said none

LMAO!!!
yes, they have come a far way!! And wow, what a recovery they have made! Hopefully WTY will get well soon and we can get on the road to championships!! (notice I said championshipSSSSSS)
