Carlos Lee to Texas
It appears Texas is going to and bash their way into the playoffs. ESPN is reporting a miulti-player deal in which Texas sends Fransisco Cordero, Kevin Mench and Lance NIx in return for Lee.
Does the Angels stratagy change now that teams within our own devision are making moves?

Carlos Lee doesn't pitch...
Lee
I am not sure, but I think Lee is under contract for a few years, and I do not look forward to him being in the West for years to come!
Although the Rangers do need pitching, you will have to agree that they are a better club with Lee. Lets wait and see if the A's improve as well.
He's a rental
Not signed long-term
This is a decent enough deal for them, but they obviously need starting pitching more than anything else. I don't think Lee is going to put them over the top.

Seriously...
And, Cordero is a good pitcher who had a crappy first two months.
Bad deal for Texas, IMO.
Tejada
Unfricking believable they are out of their minds. Why don't they take Lackey, Frankie and Vlad while they are at it...
No ML Players
If we could make Wood the centerpiece of a trade and add in a couple other prospects, I'd do it.
No way we trade Shields or Santana right now. Trading Kendrick for Tejada would really just shift our need from third base to second.

oh hell, throw in Napoli & Weaver too
The difference between Lee and Mench
If your were to compare
Kevin Mench = Rob Quinlan
Mench: .797 OPS;1 HR every 26.6 ABs; 28 years old
Quinlan: .802 OPS; 1 HR every 26.6 ABs; 29 years old
Laynce Nix = Tommy Murphy
Francisco Cordero = Brendan Donnelly
So would you trade Q, Murphy and Donnelly for Lee? It would be a good trade if it nets a World Series birth and/or Lee signs an extension. It would be a bad trade if Lee is only an Angel for 60 days and we still don't make it to the Big Dance. Losing Quinlan is not a small loss. The other two are throw ins.
Even if Lee signs an extension, he's a 240+ lb corner outfielder. This guys will need to DH in 2 years tops and has the body type (Smaller Moo Vaughn) that tends to break down at an earlier age. RF is taken and LF needs to be save for Rivera (although Juan plays well in Center). Interesting idea, but alas, too late.
I would take....
Exactly -
I really think that Texas maybe picked up a win with todays trade - at the absolute most, and honestly I would rather have Mench and Cordero next year than Lee for 2 months, so I say it is a win for the Brewers. Of course, I don't know the prospect that went to Texas - I'll look him up tonight.
yeah
Cordero
Sure they're valid

According to 710am
I don't disagree with Stonewall on this one, but I can think of a few players I would have offered (not all of them):
AK
Figgins
Donkey
Romero
Gregg
Quinlan
I think anyone of these names and the two prospects would have gotten it done... The question mark is who were the two propsects!
Interesting

There is no way....
This would be a stupid move of epic proportions. Why on earth would you give up everyone's consensus #2 prospect in baseball (behind Delmon Young) for a 2 month rental? Wood is only 21 years old and is leading all of baseball in extra base hits for the 2nd year in a row.
Look at what Milwaukee got for Lee today. That's about what Soriano is worth.
I am absolutely astonished...
I'm not that worried about the move for now. We could easily balance it out with an acquisition no bigger than a Craig Wilson (if Pittsburgh's GM stops confusing his worth with that of Jason Bay's). Texas has a rotation of guys with inexplicably big names, and small results. They'll still be finishing 3rd this year.
