the tone of Mike's voice spoke said a lot more than his words. He said Mike put his trust in him and although you can't blame a guy for being injured, sometimes a manger may het angry about that. The killer quote relayed by Rex was Mike's statement that "He's not in any hurry to activate Dallas form the diabled list."

I know little about

the science of hitting, but i'm not sure what practical difference there is between hitting a 95mph ball, and a 100mph one.

I suppose there must be a tipping point where it becomes almost impossible to hit.

BTW, I read your site every day, and you have almost single handedly got me interested in the minor leagues. I even find myself occasionally now listening to audio of Salt Lake at 4am!

It's just a matter of timing

and whether you can catch up to it. I doubt there's too many major leaguers who can catch up to 100+ MPH heat, although if you knew it was coming you could cheat a bit and start swinging early.

Consistent 100

Consistent is the problem... YOu need good off speed stuff other wise the good hitters will start to recaliabrate their swing and tag the 100 mph strike as the season goes on.. It'll take time to do that, but by then, Verlander may have better 2 and 3 pitches by then.

But only 72 Ks in 115 innings means he's not as dominant as the ESPN highlight reels look. His highest K totals are 7, which he's only had two of. Also checking his game log, he wins nearly all his well pitched games, as opposed to guys like Escobar.... So anyway, my point is, he's helped out by a hot team, and unless he gets a better off speed pitch, good hitters will adjust as the year goes on.

And lets face it, they're are more guys throwing heat than ever before, so 100 ain't what it used to be.

I also wonder if he's pitching to many innings for his age.
