Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Game 88/162

Game Thread - Angels at Athletics - Ervin "Black Magic" Santana vs. Dan "Meet Me In St. Louis" Haren - 1:05 p.m.

Star-divide

Two games back at the break would be awesome. This is doable.

Intentionally Altered Movie Lines:
Macha: Drop your weapons! Now! You have no chance of escape! Come forward! I wish to take you back alive! This is your last warning! The choice is yours!
Colonel Trautman: What do you say Ervin?
Rambo Santana:
[loading his gun] Fuck 'em!

With Vlad's hurting hand, rest G.A., DH Vlad, let's hope for an incident-free game, an at-bat and two innings in Pittsburgh's RF on Tuesday and then on the plane back to Cali.

Beat My Runs and Hits Picks: LAA: 5, 9 ... OAK: 4, 12

Hey Hey we're the Angels and people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy winning. To put anybody down.

Tino Martinez and the Baseball tonight crew did not breathe Napoli into the mix of rookie radness when looking at the end of the 1st half of the season.  sons of bees.  Another thing about tonight's baseball tonight was an interview with GA about winning the home run derby.  he man beat Albert Pujols in the finals. I used to give GA the MVP chant.  Where you at GA?  Where you at?

ANGELS 6 / 10

What is
with Rivera giving double pointers to the camera in the dugout after his last two HR's?

GA's championship
GA had his swing down and most importanlty, he paced himself so had some gas in the tamk for the finals

Most of the others were triyiing to hit the longest shot possible each pitch and ran out of gas.

Haren vs. Angels
Too small a sample size too say much, but everybody has pretty much hit him.  GA by far the most, but they may be resting GA again....  Vlad too 5 for 10.

Gee Scioscia!   Just imagine where GA might be if you had him DH most of the year.

Pickage....
Into the break we go...  I'm off to the Wild Animal Park...I'll throw something at the 'phants in hopes that it trickles up to NoCal and the A's (j/k).  I really hope that I get the updates on my phone.

did anyone catch...
the horrendous error that DaVanon had last night in that crazy 9th against Colorado?  Dang near cost them the game, but they held on by 1 run.

I was watching that game...
simultaneously with the LAAoA/OAK game. Crazy game - up 8-1 in the 9th and they almost lost it.

Got behind in a lot of counts early.  Sosh for whatever reason starts Aybar and he makes a key error early in the game to give up one of the runs.
  1. Jose Molina with a big HR,
  2. Maicer, Vlad, and GA with 3 straight hits scored 1 run, could have been more but Vlad ran into an out.
  3. Swisher with a bad play to allow another run to score on Morales' hit.

If you're the other club
you have to assume a squeeze, especially with a man on third and a nonentity at the plate like Aybar.

ever get the feeling?
For us to ever have a huge inning we have to do it in spite of our unnecessary aggressiveness?

A guy on 3rd, 1 out, and we squeeze with 2 rookies?  WTF?  If Aybar just grounds out to 2nd like he has every other time the run scores.

classic move by Rivera
The fans tried to yell at him to make him miss that ball.  So he runs away like he's not going to throw them the ball, then tosses it back over his head to them.  Funny stuff.

A pitchers ump plus he's gotta plane to catch
The home plate ump is a pitchers ump, it'll always seem to favor most of the Angels because they like to paint the black.  This ump in particular though, sometimes it was a little big....

Big, big series Win !
There is a HUGE difference between going into the All Star break 2 games down or 4 games down. The difference is really greater than two games because it is huge psychologically.

If we had lost today, I believe alot of the players (whether they'd admit it or not) are thinking it is an uphill battle in the second half. But now, that the Angels sweep Seattle and win three of four from the A's -- hey, we're only 2 games out baby! They have to be thinking it is right there for the taking, and we have the momentum going into the second half.

Boy, I sure do love our starting pitching.
