Oh shit, this detailed NY DAILY NEWS EXPOS? is kind of a bombshell... read it and weep...

Apparently Bartolo Colon's personal trainer carried a big bag of Juan Gonzalez' steroids thru customs in 2001 and was banned from clubhouses across MLB, but has now resurfaced in Anaheim and is working with Bart, Ervin and Kelvim after also having spent most of 2004 with Jose Guillen.

Not good ... not good at all ... and possibly sheds new light on Bartolo's recurring health problems. Look for it to now be very difficult to trade a former Cy Young winner.

Interesting

Bear in mind that it is generally assumed that it's the hitters who benefit from bulking up, and as the three Angels named are pitchers, I don't think we need to worry too much at this stage. Plus I doubt that Bart has ever needed any artificial help in that department, and Pedro has always been a puny little thing.

It sounds to me from this article that the guy is some sort of guru to a lot of the Latin players, and if that includes looking after their stashes, so be it.

The future ain't what it used to be.

yeah, but...

I had always heard that the reason these guys are able to bulk up and get stronger was because the steriods aided in recovery of the muscles. Therefore, one could work out more and with more and more weight.

This directly applies to pitchers since they can speed up their own recovery time from pitching and go out and throw hard without any lingering effects from the last outing.

There was an article in ESPN mag about how and why most of the people getting caught for steroids are pitchers. Don't assume that just because these guys are pitchers they aren't on roids. In the current media climate, appearance of impropriety, or mere suspicion is often enough ... too often smoke has led to fire.
