Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Game 107/162

Game Thread - A's at Angels - Loaiza vs. Escobar - 12:35 p.m.

Star-divide

Daygame = Sunburn = Proof nature wants you to be an Angels fan...

Intentionally Altered Movie Dialogue:
Blade: Some infielders are always trying to ice-skate uphill.

Scioscia bought a Diamond-Lane approved Prius for days like this - make sure to send a cab for Esteban to show up to pitch and get to the park quickly to see all the hits! I wonder if Mike's Howard big-screen television is bigger than his semi-electric car...

I always make my picks before looking at anyone else's.  A few weeks ago I was first with my picks and EXACTLY replicated the Rev's - that was kind of embarrassing, I didn't even notice until after I'd posted.

Lessee here. Rubixs is back home from a day at Wrigely Field. My wife is off today. The rubber match for a shot to take over first place against our main rivals is here in my own backyard. So I schedule a pair of important meetings this afternoon. It takes a special kind of stupid to miss out on an obvious opportunity like that.

Brought to you by the letters Q and WTF:

Figgins - CF
Kendrick - 1B
Cabrera - SS
Guerrero - DH
Anderson - LF
Rivera - RF
Kennedy - 2B
Quinlan - 3B
Molina - C

Some interesting stuff going on there.  Kendrick hitting second, which is where he belongs, but Quinlan playing third?  Against a righty?  Is Izturis hurt?

Just out of curiosity...
Am I the only person on this board who is at work and can't listen to the game on the radio or watch on TV and wants to watch the replay tonight rather than following the game on Gameday?

In other words, I have to avoid the game on the radio when I go to lunch, avoid looking at this site (and many other sports sites), AND try not to look at the Big A's halo when I drive home on the 57. The last one is really hard to do.

by Higz on Aug 2, 2006 12:28 PM PDT reply actions

Sir...
You have much restraint to be able to do that...

Dunno how you can miss the big halo on the way back home though. That has to be an interesting stretch down the 57... haha...

You're tellin me
I have even avoided the 57 altogether and gone out of my way on the 55 just so I don't know what happened. It is unbelieveably difficult not to look at something when you are trying NOT to look at something. It's like being at the Playboy mansion with a jealous wife.

But for day games I usually go ahead and listen to it.  I figure I won't be able to avoid it.

Nice ending to that AB
While we're waiting for an outcome, you might want to read this SF Chronicle article about the A's:
But if they come up short, the obvious excuses (injuries, so-so years from Bobby Crosby, Nick Swisher, Eric Chavez, Huston Street, Barry Zito, et. al.) won't be sufficient. The A's will be a team that did not meet the expectations of Beane's acolytes in the media and in the chat rooms, and the absence of that voodoo that he do at the deadline will seem more curious than justifiable. And then people will wonder if his head and heart were fully in this season.

And the answer will be, for the first time, "I'm not so sure."

Zito's is the finest...
...but you have to go to the original, at Meats and Tustin in Orange. About 5 minutes east from the stadium on Katella, turn north on Tustin. Turn intot he shopping center on the southwest corner of the intersection of Meats/Tustin. It is back in the corner.

let me ask this strategory question:
with the huge stretch in front of us, is it better to play one player one whole game or let some players play a few innings then take them out to rest & put in other players to keep them 'warmed up'?
I keep hitting "ESCAPE", but I am still here.

by ladybug on Aug 2, 2006 2:40 PM PDT reply actions

Good question
I assume a whole day of rest is probably better, but a pinch-hit or two innings late seems like not much to ask for - but I never played the game outside of La Mirada little league...

I imagine scottnak is feeling the pressure too...
...from the expectations that we all now have to see the damnable pix graph! It's fast becoming a postgame tradition here. And more variety than the win/lose image inventory of the Rev's.

He is probably muttering to himself "shit...I gotta drop what I am doing and get this posted NOW before everybody starts whining!" The price he pays for being a success.  : )
