Adenhart
Well, it looks like Nick Adenhart was ineffective in his second straight game for the USA squad. There has been some buzz over at 'Minorleagueball' that Adenhart may be an overrated prospect so I decided to take a look at a few of his splits.
Cedar Rapids:
106IP
10-2
1.95 ERA
8.33 K/9
2.19 W/9
Rancho:
52.1IP
5-2
3.78 ERA
7.97 K/9
2.75 W/9
His jump in ERA I am not too concerned with, but a decreasing K/9 rate may be something to consider and to be looked at closely as he climbs the ranks. He is still adjusting to High A and just turned 20 years old so I expect the Angels to take their sweet time with him. All in all, there still is a lot to be excited about.

He just turned 20?
One reason that the K/9 went down is the #of foulouts in the Cal League (as wella s the high ERA due to the thin air and altitude making former flyouts into HRs).
That's what I have heard about the Cal League

There are only two kinds of prospects:
- Those that are overrated
- Those that are city league softball players
I had forgotten that truism. Then I joined the ranks of HH. Now I get reminded of it every day.
I'm just around the corner from greatness

I wanna know which Ass Clown
It's still a rather true statement, however.

One ass-clown, coming up!
The K rate decline is so small..
This kid has the stuff and the makeup, all he needs is health. Considering he's already been severely injured, that's the biggest threat to his fulfilling his potenital which is at least a #3 starter. He won't see the bigs until late 2008 at earliest anyway. I see him as being ready to take over for Escobar once his contract runs out after 2009, with Tommy Mendoza perhaps to follow.
I agree
I thank you for the article

Search the page for Pujols, and read what the posters have to say about him.
Like I said, "somebody, somewhere..."
That thread makes me weep

Adenhart need to be watched carefully
Two years after ligament replacement surgery - I'm not sure I would have allowed him to participate for team USA. I would rather have him take a month off, then go play fall ball in the instructional league.
btw - his K rate is NOT anything special - the Cal League avg is 7.7 K/9. But between both levels this year, he held opponents to a .229 BA. Additionally, after his promotion, he had a Webb-esque 2.27 G/F ratio. Not bad at all.
But for Pete's sake, let's be careful with him!
G/F

USA Baseball and Halo prospects
Here's a recap http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/2005oly/051117daytwo.html
you might recognize a couple other guys in the line-up who bailed Jered out of a 2-0 hole he created for Team USA. ;-)
Granted Mexico is a better team than Brzil, but i'm sure the crowd in Cuba wasn't with Team USA.
bottom line - nothing to worry about Nick.
