I was just thinking carefully on Arte Moreno's words about money being 'no object' and that big changes would be on their way. The money thing obviously refers to absorbing big contracts or signing big contracts... but could one of those be Matsuzaka?
Just hear me out:
Arte is willing to part with the money, and we all know it. This guy has the ability to be Hideo Nomo's rookie year... for a career (or even better), and he's younger than hell.
We've got a full rotation of pitchers, and could sign Matsuzaka, and then use some of the names in the rotation (Escobar? Saunders? Colon?) as trade bait packaged with an Aybar-type guy to go off and land our desired bat, maybe even reuniting Escobar with his old team in exchange for Wells.
Then we could snatch another bat via the traditional FA ways. I realize it sounds nuts, and it is. But what do people think? Not entirely practical, but this guy does intrigue me, and it would be interesting move to say the least.
High Risk/High Reward? High Risk/Low Reward? Just plain stupid?
Let's hear it.
