Aybar for Crede?

mlbtraderumors.com is suggesting the White Sox might need a new SS with Uribe's issues.  They are suggesting (via Gammons) that the Sox might be interested in swapping Crede for Aybar.

We don't have a lot of use for Aybar, but I'd hope we could squeeze a little better than Crede for him.

Not sure if I like this idea... Plus it just adds more players at 1B/3B.

Of course, Gammons IS an idiot, so this might not be true...

Why would anyone not do that trade?
Aybar is probably not going to do anything in our system.  Crede hit .283/.323/.506 last year.

If his back problem don't flare up, it would be a steal.

I R O N Y
if we didn't have Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez, we'd be ptting Aybar on a pedestal as the second coming of Miguel Tejada.

Of course that is overvaluing him, but the fact that he gets lost in the shuffle is inidicative of how deep the Angels farms system is...

by Rev Halofan on Jan 15, 2007 10:36 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

A little better?
You really think Aybar is better then Crede? A slap hitting, slick fielding SS is better then a power 3B?

That's way overvaluing him. You're as bad as Stoneman

by Obscurity on Jan 15, 2007 11:21 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Do it
If he plays third he won't be blocking Kotch or Morales, and at this point we need to have a better insurance policy at that corner than Shea Hillenbrand.

absolutely do this trade
I am sick of letting prospects rot in our system, if we can get value for him today (Which I believe Crede is worth it) I make that trade.

When is Aybar ever going to crack our starting limeup? He wont, so why not get some value back for him that could help us next year...

I would bet that all players competing for the 3b job will come to spring in shape and ready to battle for that starting job:
Figgy
D-mac
Hillenbrand
Crede
Quin (long,long shot)
***the cream should rise out if this heated competition

Stoneman, so far NO GOOD!!!

Yeah
I'm so sick of watching nobodies like Alexi Casilla rot in our system, too.  How's Jason Bulger doing, by the way?
Fire Mickey Hatcher. An entire generation of Angels offense depends upon it.

by scareduck on Jan 15, 2007 1:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

kinda unfair
as Bulger was in a car crash wih nick gorneault in utah and went on the DL with bleeding on the brain.

by Rev Halofan on Jan 15, 2007 1:51 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I thought the bleeding on the brain
occurred when he ran into Jonathon Rouwenhorst just before the season ended.

Or is there some mystery here???  The truth is out there...

oops
my bad - rouwhenhurst not gorneault and HEAD-ON ... but not in a car.

by Rev Halofan on Jan 15, 2007 2:43 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Not comparable
Comparing Bulger to Crede is hardly comparing Apples to Apples
Stoneman, so far NO GOOD!!!

by P237 on Jan 16, 2007 11:33 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I can't imagine Chicago doing that trade.
It doesn't make much sense. Then again, perhaps they're feeling desperate about the SS position at this point.

At the same time, if this proposal was actually presented to Stoneman I question whether he'd think it fair; he'd probably feel insulted that the Sox aren't offering Jermaine Dye or something like that...

Do you ever get tired of
aimlessly bitching about Stoneman?
GMJ step number one in a plan for continued dominance, or step number one in a plan for severe weight loss through explosive vomiting?

Not so far.
Maybe someday, but it doesn't feel like it's anywhere near yet.

Meh
I think it'd be a good trade, but it'd be nice if we could have another good prospect (maybe single-A) thrown in there to sweeten it for us (or at least Stoneman, esp. if that prospect was a pitcher).

by Clutch on Jan 15, 2007 4:35 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Seriously? We're lucky if they'd take
this trade straight up.

I can't believe you're my friend. Shocking.

No shit...
IF there was any truth to this - I would find Stoneman and kick his ass if he didn't do it. I have probably threatened this before but would actually do it this time.

Truth is - I don't see how the Sox would do this (young proven power 3B vs young great glove SS prospect) - that'd be lunacy.

Please do something good this offseason...

Other side fo the Crede coin:
Injury-prone and abot to get very expensive, why not get insurance on the Uribe situation as well as a cheap top prospect for someone who is going to be gone after this season...

by Rev Halofan on Jan 15, 2007 5:14 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

True...
There are health/back questions with Crede but its a roll of the dice worth taking.  He is not a FA till 09 (according to Rotoworld) so that 2 yrs before a BIG payday.  Besides, we don't really NEED Aybar - and Stoneman hasn't been slick enough to package him in another deal that brings a bat so this trade would be worth it...if it is even a possibility.

This would be a spring training trade
After the White Sox get another look at Josh Fields and can determine his suitability to take over at 3B

and

once the Angels realize there's only one SS position on the field, and nowhere for Aybar to play from Low A to the Majors.  This would also give the Chisox an opportunity to really check out Erick.

Because Crede is a Proven Veteran, my guess is that Stoneman would have to throw in another prospect to finish the deal.  However, his service time isn't as long as one would think; it looks like Crede will be a free agent after 2008.  Let me know if I'm reading that wrong, though.

Throw in Moseley.
I don't think we need a soft tossing RHP to help clog up the system.

OK
Aybar +

Make it happen cap'n.

this may not be just internet BS...
Gammons even said it.  Here's the quote from his latest:

If Juan Uribe's future is cloudy, the word is that the White Sox may go after Angels shortstop Erick Aybar. With Josh Fields coming at third, they can trade Joe Crede, if the Angels will take Crede knowing he can become a free agent at the end of the year.

by thewebb on Jan 15, 2007 8:09 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

"MAY go after"
Not "WILL go after."

I'm getting excited about the possibility, but I wouldn't bet on it.

by Clutch on Jan 15, 2007 9:36 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

No way
This trade goes through without the Angels giving up something else.

If its McPherson, lets do it.  If its Figgins, I'm OK with it.  If the rumors go back to Ervin Santana, then never take a call from Kenny Williams again.

And thus
there will be no trade.

why not ? ? ? ?
that they signed him gives the other club salary certainty (unlike, say Donnelly who was arbitration eligible) - it doesn't make him instantly untradeable nor undesirable.

by Rev Halofan on Jan 16, 2007 8:14 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Concur
This makes him more tradeable. I'm not sure I read the article right, but I thinnk he has 1 more year after this prior to free agency. Would not be a bad pick up for someone who is (unfortunately) basically useless to us.

I just
went over to the crysox page, and they are pretty sure that Crede will net them a combination of Aybar, Figgins/Santana -->and<-- a b prospect. And you all thought Stoneman overvalued!

Crysox indeed
They'd be lucky to get the winner of the annual SoCal AJ Perzynski look-alike contest in addition to Aybar.

by Clutch on Jan 17, 2007 12:45 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That's insane
I take my offer of McPherson + Aybar back.

If they want Aybar they have to give us Crede and Thome, while taking back Hillenbrand.

Better.

by RallyMonkey5 on Jan 17, 2007 6:30 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

One has nothing to do with the other
he was arbitration elligible this one year deal avoids arbitration but does not solve the problem of the White Sox signing him to a multi year deal.
