Playoff Games on XM Radio? Rabbit Ears? Lake Mead?

My friends and I go on a 5 day houseboat trip on Lake Mead every October... and it always coincides with the Division Series.

Last year wasn't so bad since the Angels weren't in it(bad that we weren't in it but not bad because I didn't have to worry about hearing/watching the games).  A couple of my friends are Dodger die hards and all we had was a little hand held radio.  We couldn't get reception on the lake, then hiked up to  the top of a hill where we got scratchy reception.

I'd like to do better than that.

I'm willing to pony up 250 bucks + short term subscription to get a portable XM radio so that I can clearly hear the broadcast of the game.

I'm also willing to buy some sort of antenna that could hook up to a TV.

What I'm not willing to do is sit there down 250 bucks and go WTF!, why can't I hear the broadcast on XM??? or WTF?!? why can't I get the game on my TV Antenna???

Does anyone have advice as to what I should do?

Lake Mead
You will XM radio out there.  There are no obstructions.

Concur...
XM is available pretty much everywhere in the contiguous 48. Just don't set yourself up under a bridge.

DirecTV
If you can take you dish out there, you will get service as well.

Many people have them set up on tripods for tailgating.

hahaha
I don't have direcTV but if I did it would be worth a shot to see the game!

We dock on the beach in a cove in the evening so if we did have a tv antenna it may have worked out.

I got an XM thing for $70 bucks at costco(great return policy).  Subscription is something like $12.95 for 3 months.  Only problem is I might have to run the generator on the boat to power the damn thing.

Generator
Keep the petrol handy. It is a known fact that generators run out of juice in the bottom of the 9th.

And every time you got up to grab a beer
the houseboat will rock just a teeny bit. That teeny bit of aim difference, cast across 26,000 miles to the DirecTV satellite in space, means that your dish points at the satellite, then Jupiter, then the satellite, then Jupiter, then the satellite...

Houseboats
You tie down to the shore when you are setting up camp.  The beach does not bob.  Put your tripod on the beach.

So
Most people do not drive around in their boats all day.  If you were planning on watching a game, is it that unreasonable that you would have your houseboat anchored to a shore?

Have you been houseboating?

Dude.
I'm joking around here, having some personal fun with the imagery of poor planning. Relax. You obviously would not plan poorly so it doesn't apply, in reality, to you.

Enjoy your games. Enjoy your houseboat.

(Yes, I have been, but it was about 30 years ago and I still remain a little foggy as to what actually happened that week!)

Don't remember eh?
Hah. Yeah it is quite the good times.  We've got 2 boats and 16 people in our group.  Should be crazy.  A Rockies fan is going as well so now he's pretty stoked I got the XM radio as well.  Poor sucker is also a fan of NFL and is going to get Sirius to listen to 1 regular season Broncos game.
