A's can't stand Oakland even more than their fans

-Link- to story.

So good ol' Lew She-Wolff of the lady A's decides that even fielding offers to stay in Oakland is beneath him:

FTA:
"We don't want to move [from the projected Fremont site]. We don't want to start pitting cities against each other, but it's out of the question we'll stay in Oakland," Lew Wolff said Monday after giving an address and answering questions at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco.

Adding to the collective disgust of the nation was the organization's embrace of Fremont's connoted Bed'n'Breakfast community:

"The Athletics have envisioned a 32,000-seat ballpark in Fremont on a 200-acre complex that would include a shopping mall, a hotel and 3,000 housing units."

Can you count the ways this projected plan is pathetic? But don't worry, fans, they're still in the AL West and don't have plans to go anywhere!

"We're still here, folks," Wolff said. "We're not moving to Timbuktu. We're just moving down the street."

As one fan in the forums aptly stated:
decarguy:
I don't know, the Timbuktu A's is kinda catchy.

This story wouldn't be replete with hatred for the Fleamont Faithful without a poll. In which city do you, the intelligent Halos Heaven poster, believe these excuses for athletes should end up to burden a new community with a culture of loss and failure?

So, Arte, should they be called the Oakland A's of
Fremont or just go ahead and call them the SFA's?

Could be worse
Could be the DFA's.
Hoping Ervin Santana turns it around in Salt Lake. Go, Ervin!

How about the Silicon Valley A's of San Jose?
This would pull in all the local markets right?
Isn't it all about branding?
Attending a losing Angel game is better than a winning day at work

Close
THEY will certainly carry "OF FREMONT" in their team name once they move into that new stadium. Silicon Valley A's of Fremont - what a damn dorky corporate shill of a name.

It could be worse.
Cisco A's of Fremont. It's only a matter of time...

Since Fremont is a Bed'n Breakfast community,
it would probably be a good idea to lease some land closest to the new stadium for a Motel6 with a Popeye's Chicken chain in front, and a 24 hour carwash next door with an all-night Taco truck parked in the lot.

Weird...
I thought the Fremont deal was a done deal for their new ballpark...  I really hope they get this deal done for their new ball park.  They don't deserve to play in that hell hole built for the grim reaper himself, Al Davis.

Favorite quote of the article:
"Some Athletics fans in attendance at the Commonwealth Club, the nation's oldest public affairs forum, questioned Wolff on the proposed move, raising concerns about traffic, ticket prices and fewer seats at the new site."
-"Fewer seats"?  Now that is kind of funny.  What are they gonna do with all their tarps.

Honestly, I think this would be a great move for the A's and MLB. The 10,000-12,000 hardcore A's fan are gonna follow them wherever they go, especially if it only 30 minutes down the road. Also, being that close to San Jose, a lot of disposable income.

Weird.

from and A's fan
i heard that the move to Fremont isn't exactly a short stroll down the road -- he claims it's a shitty drive down the alreayd-congested 880 freeway, which during rush hour would mean a 2-hour drive to the stadium from oakland.

ah yes but
how many of the 12,000 fans who go to A's games LIVE in Oakland? - plus there is a bart stop a half mile from teh Fremont Stadium site - and how many San Jose A's fans will now have an easier time geting to games?

I just hope
That Lew takes all of those profits he's gonna make from the new stadium and puts it in his pocket, instead of investing it into the team.

Competition is nice to have, I guess, but only if you still finish in first every year.

I still think they are idiots for making a 32,000 seat stadium, but if they want to limit their earnings potential, I guess it's not too bad for the Angels.  Better for us if they continue to think like a small market team.

The only part that sucks is it's going to be more difficult for me to get prime seats in Fremont for cheap like I can now in Oakland.

I like the Captain Lew Albano A's of Wolfmont.

And the new mascot should be Captain Lou
With the rubber bands in the beard and all.

He kind of reminds me of a cross between Stomper, the current A's mascot, and banjo guy.  For those of you who don't know, banjo guy is some old drunkard who walks around the stadium in an A's cape playing a banjo that he can't actually play.  He's probably only 29, but has consumed so much booze he looks 65 with a wrinkly nose.

Actually, now that I think about it, Banjo guy might ACTUALLY be Capt. Lou!

Seat minimum
I always thought there was a minimum seat capacity for all new stadiums in the Major Leagues. Something like 45,000+.

Lets all copy Fenway
guess they think that when they start winning the stands will be packed. Then it will be time to make some kind of waiting list, and gouge the fan in the wallet.

Wolff is picking a fine time
to get into the housing market in order to raise his revenue stream for the A's.

Perfect timing, if you ask me. But then, I am an Angels fan.

San Jose
Change the Green to the Sharks' TEAL.  Teal and yellow.  The sharks actually added yellow into their color scheme this year.  They would match perfectly.
The last world series champion in California has "Anaheim" written next to their name.
