Nick Gorneault Claimed Off Waivers

Rangers claimed outfielder Nick Gorneault off waivers from the Angels.

We're not sure why a team that already has Jason Botts, Nelson Cruz and Victor Diaz feels the need to add Gorneault. The 28-year-old right-handed hitter has a history of putting up quality minor league numbers and probably would be a decent platoon partner for a left-handed hitter, but he doesn't have the long-term upside of any of the aforementioned players.

In other news, Edgar Renteria traded to the Tigers

Wtf
If the FO wants to get rid of the glut of OF's, fine. But Gorneault???? Why not Murphy?

Ask and you shall receive
Tommy Murphy and Marcus Gwyn were waived and became minor league free agents today too...

Housekeeping going on.
What does this say about value in our farm system when so many "prospects" are evaporating out the waiver door?

No argument here.
I am trying to point out to "fanboys" with overactive mancrushes that MLB, as a whole, doesn't seem to share the love exhibited around here for some of these guys.

There was, for example, some talk of including Resop in a package for Texiera earlier.

And somebody else proclaimed Gorneault the TOP outfiled prospect in THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION until Evans came on board. (Yeah. Still paying attention...)

I think that was Lyle Spencer
Or somesuch, who proclaimed Gorneault to be one of the organization's "top prospects." So not entirely just absurd mancrushing.

Not Lyle Spencer I was thinking of...
Somebody else had that mancrush. To quote:

"Nick was the Angels' top outfield prospect prior to their Terry Evans acquisition."

Name a better one they had at the time
That they were thin at that position did nt magicaly make him a better OVERALL prospect, just their best outfield prospect.
