Kendrick Could Be Traded

UPDATE: According to Marlins.com Maicer Izturis could be had instead of Brandon Wood
Link To Update

According to the LA TIMES:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition/la-sp-cabrera14nov14,1,6152700.story?coll=la-headlines-pe -sports

Kendrick is apparently not untouchable and would be part of a package for Miguel Cabrera is the Angels were to get a 2nd player in return. Apparently that second player could be Dan Uggla, MLBTradeRumors.com has also noted Dontelle Willis being added to the deal.

This is a tough deal to look at.

We'd be giving up Nick Adenhart, Howie Kendrick, "Dick" Wood and Mathis or Napoli. But, in return we'd be receiving Miguel Cabrera and Dontelle Willis or Dan Uggla.

I'm not sure I would do this trade of Kendrick was included. I love Uggla's power, but it's the NL and his BA is questionable. We'd also be putting ourselves into a large hole with the lack of Adenhart in the minors. What would you all do?

Don't
Uggla's a stiff. He's Rob Deer in the making. He'll put up years like 29 homers, 57 RBI .230 avg, 190 Ks. and bad D at 2nd. For that package, I'd want Dontrelle and Cabrera. Adenhart should be untouchble, unless you're getting Johan Santana and negotiating a long term deal with him in advance.

as do i.
and what i read baffled me. that's beyond fucking insane.

howie kendrick, nick adenhart, joe saunders or ervin santana, and reggie willits or terry evans. fuck no. i saw the dodgers supposed package too, the dodgers are completely nuts if they offer that.

if that's what the marlins are asking for, i'm saying no to all of it and if reagins says no, i'm supporting him. the marlins will not fleece us. no.

Could not agree more
As an organization, all of the guys listed (besides Evans) have been invested in and brewed to play Scioscia style baseball.  This is WAY too much to give up for a guy that is a 24 year-old athlete but is in the shape of a 35 year-old beer league softball player.

by autrys cowboys on Nov 15, 2007 7:47 AM PST up reply actions

Kendrick! > Uggla
Uggla is a young player with only one old player's skill: power. He can't hit for average and he doesn't know the strike zone.

In short: NO.

he's not even that young.
he's 27 or 28 or something. i think d-mac can at least match what uggla does if he's healthy.

no
i wouldnt trade kendrick because i truly believe hes about a year away from being chase utley, who mind you is an MVP candidate.

cabrera's bat is tempting but judging by all these reports, and the one on the angels' homepage, it appears theyre holding out for howie. i dont blame them, but i dont see it happening. not howie AND wood AND adenhart. i think theyre just shooting for the stars and hoping that we meet them somewhere just short of that.

this trade would basically signal a commitment from arte to spend more money through free agency over the coming years, which i find highly unlikely. this deal aint happenin.

by ihearhowie2.0 on Nov 14, 2007 10:26 PM PST reply actions

Why wait to become Chase Utley
He already is Dustin Pedroia (except for the strikeout rate), and Pedroia is practically canonized  in the MSM already.

by Stirrups on Nov 14, 2007 10:56 PM PST up reply actions

I would do this trade in a heartbeat.
If they gave us, Cabrera, Uggla, AND Willis.

by bc56274 on Nov 14, 2007 11:24 PM PST reply actions

We need Cabrera
A-Rod is staying in New York so I think the Angels need to grab Miggy before the Dodgers do.  Honestly, he is our best option to WIN NOW.

I love Howie Kendrick but if we can trade Kendrick/Adenhart/Wood for Cabrera/Uggla/Willis, sign me up.

by NPCody on Nov 15, 2007 12:17 AM PST reply actions

That trade would never happen
if it did, I'd shit my pants.

I won't be needing new pants any time soon for that reason.

NOno NO no
Why would we be willing to give up all this for MCab but not half this much fro Miguel tejada? Right now they would accept A Ervin Santana, plus a couple AAA guys for Tejada. Also its seems as if Carl Crawford is available the Cubs are going after him, this is the guy I have wanted to come here for years, power speed, hits for avg. plays good defense. put GA at DH ship over Rivera, M Izturis, and Saunders. Anything but all the pieces that has been talked about for M Cab

I love it
How people here think A-Rod is too "expensive," and now, as a result of reportedly not being able to "afford" him, we're reportedly about ready to trade away the best double-play combination this farm system has ever produced, for a guy eats like Bart Colon & plays 3B likes Manny Ramirez. I'm about to become a Nationals fan.

by mattwelch on Nov 15, 2007 7:33 AM PST reply actions

ok, can you stop?
i wanted a-rod too but if youre not going to be realistic with yourself and acknowledge that this team doesnt make the kind of revenue to be throwing money around like that on contracts, i dont think anybody is taking you seriously.

im not saying i want this trade to happen either because i absolutely do not. howie is my favorite player and i think hes a star but you need to stop with this a-rod junk. Who makes their biggest, in boras'-ballpark offer at 12:01???

really? the first minute we should have just gone into a bidding war with ourselves? thank god youre not our GM. what then if the red sox or giants decide to get crazy and join in? we'd feel pretty stupid for setting the bar that high the first minute he was a free agent wouldnt we?

you can say youll go be a nationals fan but from the sounds of it, you might be happier rooting for new york or boston.

the audacity of angel fans to be hating on arte for not raising his payroll by 27 million when we already have the 4th highest payroll in the league is sickening. not to mention the fact that a-rod and the yankees negotiating has nothing to do with us and everything to do with the lack of OTHER teams interested and a-rods(his wife's) desire to stay a yankee

by ihearhowie2.0 on Nov 15, 2007 8:40 AM PST up reply actions

This trade would RAISE the payroll
Its pretty much stupid all the way around.  Howie, Mathis and Napoli are making the minimum right now, so is Wood and Adenhart would be too.  If we trade these guys for MCab, we are either going to 1) have to pay to replace those guys in the lineup or 2) proceed with inferior replacements who are already on the roster (Izturis, Aybar, etc).

MCab is going to make about $12 million this year and perhaps $15 million next year.  Thats a savings of $33 million over the next 2 years over ARod...but after those two years are up MCab is going to be a free agent who will most likely sign a bigger contract than ARod for more years and more $$ per year.  If we sign guys to replace the guys we traded, we have to remember that Howie, Wood, Adenhart, et al. were going to be under club control for 4-6 years and so we have to put that extra money in the budget for that time period.

MCab Claims...
He's a new fitness driven man...

"This winter, I'm really going to work on my physical condition in order to be in the best shape possible for Spring Training," said Cabrera. "I've been at it for four weeks now at a gym that specializes in professional athletes, and I'll be there until the spring."

But I agree, this talk of trading HK is blasphemous.

We'll be fine.

Keep Howie
now that i'm over the ARod dealings, i think we should focus on getting Johan Santana.  it just looks like the club is set on Wood and DMac battling it out for 3B.

by SCHalo on Nov 15, 2007 9:31 AM PST reply actions

I'd do it.
Howie/Izzy/Adenhart for Miggy/Uggla. Yep. I would.

I love Howie, but clearly not as much as most everybody else here. I see his D as weak. Maybe he will become awesome later, but I thought that the drop-off from Kennedy was noticeable. On offense, yeah, he hits for nice average and every 5th hit he turns into a double. But he has never shown any power to speak of and has a noticeable strikeout rate. Uggla has a high strikeout rate too, sure, but same or better D and is a HUGE power improvement.

Izzy for Miggy is a no-brainer. If I have to justify that to anybody, leave me alone. The net upside for that player in the Angels' lineup is similar to what Vladdie has brought, and his age makes this a possible long-term opportunity.

Adenhart is a loss. Yes. But he remains a minor league prospect. If we are already so short of minor league pitching prospects that his loss leaves the cupboard totally empty, then we have bigger issues to fix. And our current pitching staff is pretty damned good and pretty damned proven. I give up prospects and possibilities for proven.

Plus, this leaves us with more dollar flexibility going forward than would an ARod deal.

by Stirrups on Nov 15, 2007 10:06 AM PST reply actions

I'd do that deal as well
Our window for winning with this current team and Vlad is closing.  We need to do what we can to take advantage in the next 2 years.  After 2009 season we have so many potential free agents, I believe Lackey, Escobar, and Vlad are the big ones, that we need to cash in on this window of opportunity now.  After 2009 this team will look much different and we might not have the same opportunities.  Yea, Kendrick could start hitting with RISP position next year and become a star, but we need HR power and he most likely will not provide that pop for a few more years down the road.  I love the guy, but he's not MCab as of now, and that's what we need.  I'm on the fence if they don't include Uggla, definitely out if we need to include Wood, but the deal above I think is a must do to win now.

Pull the Trigger!
Kendrick, Wood and Adenhart for Miguel Cabrera and Dan Uggla.

Do that trade right now!  Please!  I would immediately make the Angels the best team in baseball!

Projected Lineup

  1. Figgins
  2. O. Cabrera
  3. Vlad
  4. Miguel Cabrera
  5. Garrett Anderson
  6. Gary Matthews Jr.
  7. Dan Uggla
  8. Mike Napoli
  9. Casey Kotchman
We would have plenty of speed and power.  Would you rather have this lineup?  If you would then you are a fool.
  1. Figgins
  2. Kendrick
  3. Vlad
  4. Garrett Anderson
  5. Gary Matthews Jr.
  6. Juan Rivera
  7. Casey Kotchman
  8. Mike Napoli
  9. Orlando Cabrera

Another way to look at the lineups:
Not in batting order, but infield position players:

WHAT IS...

Player       2007 HRs
=======
Napoli       10
Kotchman     11
Kendrick      5
O Cabrera     8
Izturis       6

WHAT COULD BE...

Player       2007 HRs
=======
Napoli       10
Kotchman     11
Uggla        31
O Cabrera     8
M Cabrera    34

Yeah, I'd go into battle with that.

by Angel Aviator on Nov 15, 2007 10:17 AM PST reply actions

I'm glad I can come to Halos Heaven
where we callously disregard Miguel Cabrera as just "some fat dude" who happens to play baseball occasionally.  If I had never heard of the guy, I'd swear you people were talking about some beerball league catcher/construction worker...and not, you know, arguably the best hitter in the entire game under the age of 25.

But hey, what do I know.  Guys with infinitely high ceilings in power, run production, and batting average are fucking useless.  After all, he's OMGFAT.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Nov 15, 2007 11:42 AM PST reply actions

Yeah, no kidding.
Imagine his projected numbers if he ever played in a winning organization, in front of more than 700 fans a night.

He and Vlad together would make Ortiz and Manny look like little leaguers.

You sir,
Have shed a new light on the subject for me.

by Obscurity on Nov 15, 2007 1:51 PM PST up reply actions

Amen......Lets do this by Turkey Day
According to MLB Trade Rumors in order for us to Get MIGGY CRABS we need to part with....

Howie Kendrick
Nick Adenhart
Another Pitcher (Saunders or Santana)
1 Outfielder (Willits, Evans, or Haynes) I would give them Anderson

If we give them all of this I would expect us to get Willits or Uggla cuz we are giving them a shit load of tallent.

Dream Deal
Kendrick
Adenhart (I dont want to give him up but you got to do what you got to do when it comes to business)
Willits (He cant field and has NO POWER but I would give up Anderson)
Santana (If we trade him he will fall apart without Vlad and Co.)

Starting Lineup
2B Figgins
SS Cabrera
RF Guerrero
3B Cabrera
LF Rivera
DH Morales
1B Kotchman
CR Napoli
CF Matthews

OH THE POWER!!!!!!!!!!
Vlad-35HR/Cab 2-40HR/Rivers-25HR/Ken-Mor-20HR+/Kotch-20HR+

Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's dumb.
how is that a dream deal? we still end up giving up hk for m-cab, the rest are just icing for the florida fish.

by acuda27 on Nov 15, 2007 3:09 PM PST up reply actions

The guy can mash
there is no doubt about it.  I would just hate to see Howie go, but it is most likely necessary to win now.

I still think there should be some kind of built in clause or incentive for staying in shape.  He is 24, and though being out of shape may not stop you from hitting (hence the beer league softball player), it will stop you from getting to a ball drilled 2 feet to your left at the hot corner.  Not to mention the health risks and recovery aspects that come along with being overweight (not trying to bag on people overweight as I am certainly not one to talk).

I guess I could really go either way on this one the more I think about it.

by autrys cowboys on Nov 15, 2007 12:28 PM PST reply actions

why dont we just.....
give them izzy, willits and/or rivera, adenhart, aybar and some draft picks?

that seems like a even deal if we were to get miggy and ugly

if we do giv up kendrick i would expect willis and spicy alfredo(i always thought he was a great player) to b thrown in the deal
