Better by UZR (-20 for Kotch vs. -5 for Youkilis)
Better by Zone Rating (.918 for Kotch, .858 for Youkilis)
Darn close by Rate2 (Youkilis leads Kotchman 112 to 110, the only advanced fielding metric where he does).

The "no errors" thing counts in the minds of the voters; Youkilis owned five errors at first base in 2006. In my mind he's very good but not as good as Kotchman, and for all the metrics save Rate2, it's not even close.

Hoping Ervin Santana turns it around in Salt Lake. Go, Ervin!

...have one of them newfangled slide rules which calculate the number of errors that Kotch saved for other fielders and their errant throws?

As opposed to, oh, say, Quinlan and throws from right field?

he impacted OCab and how many errors he picked? From my experience, the better you know your 1B is the less you worry about the quality of your throw...and funny thing, you tend to make better throws as a result!
