Willits & Haynes to the Padres?

"Now that Bill Stoneman, who was never know as much of a wheeler-dealer, out of the front office, it appears the San Diego Padres and Anaheim Angels could talk about making a deal.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the Padres could try to get Anaheim outfielders Reggie Willits and Nathan Haynes. Willits has almost no power, but he had a .391 on-base percentage last year. The strong relationship between Padres manager Bud Black and Angels manager Mike Scioscia increases the chances the two franchises could strike a deal. "

The original Union-Tribune story:
When trade-averse GM Bill Stoneman left the Angels last month, it increased the chances Towers will barter with the Angels for outfielders such as Reggie Willits and Nathan Haynes. Willits has almost no power, but he had a .391 on-base percentage last year. The strong relationship between Padres manager Bud Black and Angels manager Mike Scioscia increases the chances the two franchises could strike a deal.

Pure speculation, of course.

Hoping Ervin Santana turns it around in Salt Lake. Go, Ervin!

What/who would we get in return?
I can't think of like 3 players on their roster;

Bradley;
Peavy;
Hoffman

Maybe
Maybe we have heavioly-scouted their farms system and Reagins has found a diamond or two in the rough.

Power or Pitching
Some diamonds with Power or Pitching excellence.

well
it would have to be prospects. however, they covet their power prospects more than anyone, believe me. the people in sd are probably twice as frustrated with the lack of offense than we are. we at least score runs.

Nathan Haynes should...
....at least be able to fetch us some shiny new baseballs.

We need Willits
He's cheap, he's healthy, he can walk, he can bunt, and he can play all three outfield spots. That's no idle spare part on a team with 30something outfielders all over the yard.

I'd rather have Evans on the bench.....
He would do better than Willits batting in the 4 spot when scioscia decides to start GA with pink eye next season. He has HR power and he has hit for average the past 2 seasons and he steals bases.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My problem with Reggie W.
Once the league adjusted to him, he did not adjust to the league. Let's hope he can.

I was just about to write the same thing
I wouldn't be upset losing him for a solid pitching prospect (Haven't researched but I would think pitching is where SD has talent) and giving Evans some more opportunities...
Wanted: Any position player with power

Not sure Evans can hit ML pitching
And even when Willits was slumping the last two months of last year, he was posting OBPs of .367 & .355. He's an excellent 4th or 5th outfielder, one of the best in the bigs. Evans has power but a suspect ability to get on base. Given that the OF is filled with power guys who don't walk that much, Willits' skills are very complementary.

Possibly
If the Padres are willing to part with a top level prospect other ways pass we don't need more B rated talent.
legen... wait for it... dary

I agree with him, actually...
we're an organization of "pretty goods" in a sport that requires excellence.

Most of our minor leaguers won't ever see more than a few days in The Show; why part with one of our more productive homegrown talents for other mediocre talents we have plenty of?
