Nolan Ryan Anniversary

26 years ago today Nolan Ryan became and Angel and my boyhood hero Jim Fregosi was traded. It was a dark day for be that years later turned to gold. What Angel trade do you remember that seemed awful at the time, only to turn out great.

No way.
No Kennedy, no ALCS victory over the Twins, no World Series.  He saved the Angels in Game 5 and saved the series.  Not to mention his superlative work during the regular season as a 2nd baseman (previously a black hole for the Angels).  The average AL 2nd baseman in 2002 was .262/.321/.385 while Kennedy was .312/.345/.449, usually batting 9th.  Edmonds was the better player, but it was worth it for that awesome 2002.

Awful is:
Dave Parker for Dante Bichette.
Greg Gohr for Damion Easley.
Mike Bovee and Mark Gubicza for Chili Davis.

i think it's been longer than...
26 years. i'm 36 and i can vividly remember being in third grade when nolan signed with houston. the cover of "inside sports" w/nolan wearing that tv test pattern astros jersey made me realize that players from your favorite team can leave.

Longer
36 years ago........Ryan became an Angel. Don't worry we all try to knock 10 years off when we can

Thinking the trade that made me scratch my head was maybe the Bonds, Bosley and Dotson for Knapp, Frost and a guy named Downing. Worked out OK  though

LOL STONEMAN DUZNT TRADE
but seriously, name a significant trade in the Stoneman era. Before that, I was too young to fully realize the impact of baseball business.

Kimera Bartee for Chone Figgins
Jose Guillen for Maicer Izturis and Juan Rivera

Don't forget
Mo Vaughn for Kevin Appier. That one was freaking huge and Stoneman doesn't get enough credit for it.

Aren't We All
just remember the 30/30 thing being such a huge deal back then and wondering why if this was such a great achievement had Bonds been shipped out.

A CLASSIC ROBBERY!!!
...and of course i will admit to being pissed at the time of that trade only to happily eat crow for year upon year...

The Kennedy and Appier trades
were the best that Stoneman made.
It is way overdue Arte. #5 needs to be retired by the Angels.

I was watching Rodeo on TV last night,
they showed Nolan Ryan sitting in the audience with a cowboy hat on.
"We're still in the information-gathering process," Reagins said.
