ya
vlad has an option for 2009 and will be extended without question. As will lackey.
GA will be gone and Frankies the only question mark.
garland probably gone, as will juan.

God, I hope not.
Here's to hoping that the Halos sign Rivera for two or three years at $5 to $7 million per year for 2009-2011. I wish that the Front Office would just let him play 150 games and see what he could do...

Are you crazy?
That's right, $12 million a year - and he is a known juicer - and he is a clubhouse cancer - as many here point out.
Juan Rivera put up a BETTER season in 2006 than Jose Guillen put up in 2005 with the Halos - considered a great season for him.
Rivera, 2006 = .362/.525 for an OPS+ of 126
Guillen, 2005 = .352/.497 for an OPS+ of 121
Just for giggles:
Torii Hunter, v. 2007 = .334/.505 for an OPS+ of 122 and Hunter makes $18 million per year.
Juan Rivera has a case for arguing that he is better than both Guillen and Hunter and you think that $5 million is too much?
Juan Rivera has NEVER been a free agent. If he is healthy in 2008 and gets playing time enough to put up his average numbers he will command $10 million per year.
I say, sign him now to a below-market extension and ensure that we have one outfielder that is above league average in 2009 that isn't named Vlad.

Which says nothing of that fact
Oh, and Guillen was an Angel in 2004, btw. Time flies by when you're having fun not suffering with that abortion of a person, eh?

Brutal?
I can't stand the amount of shit G.A. gets on this site as if he never did anything for anyone on this team.
If it weren't for the money he was being paid (the exact thing I was suggesting they fix by paying the buyout), no one would be saying a thing about it anyway.

It is because GA is a LOT older than Rivera
What is more likely: G.A. repeating the 2nd half of 2007 in 2009 or repeating the first half of 2007 in 2009?
As great as he may have been historically, G.A.'s recent contributions were a big disappointment up until July 2007 - now add in the fact that he is the oldest Angel save for Darren Oliver.

As far as Rivera
RBI are nice, but anyone will tell you they aren't the most reliable stat for predicting the future. Personally, I still hold that GA majorly changed his plate approach for the better last year, but the question is whether that's going to hold up.
He's approaching an age range where players tend to fall off rapidly (see-Steve Finley, circa 2005). With all his injury problems the last 4 years, even if he's healthy and completely productive next year, you question whether bringing him back again is worth it. In some ways it'll depend on what the other outfielders do.

Casual stroll in the park
He's an enigma, so it's a love/hate deal. If I had to choose, I'd say I love him.
So let's hug it out, GA, you big lazy cruiser you.

I'm with you and GA
Plus, that one big smile he cracked when he came up with that snow cone sliding catch in '02 made up for all his enigmatic body language throughout his career.

Rivera
If we let Rivera play out his contract and he hits like he did in 2006, then he'll hit free agency and somebody will pay him 50 million over the next 4 years.

GA
he plays the laziest defense of anyone, he should be DHing but that is vlads spot now.
its just natural that he cant stay healthy enough to produce at a level of what hes getting paid. This should be his last year by all means.

I keep hearing this
I think that GA plays so well, and positions himself so well, that it looks like he's not hustling, but he's merely playing smart.
