would you take Juan Rivera over Jose Guillen or Torii Hunter?
Somehow, though, Rivera "has a case for arguing that he is better than both Guillen and Hunter." (not singling anyone out so much as using the most recent example).
Am I alone in thinking that Juan Rivera's skills are somewhat overstated here?
Rivera's good. His talent is obvious. He's a great fourth outfielder to have. But unless he's traded, or someone else is injured or traded, Juan Rivera will be the Chuck Norris of the Angels' bench, nothing more, nothing less.
The ongoing glorification of Juan Rivera, though, is entertaining.
The best part is that I hope he crushes the league and does what everyone seems to think he's capable of...that would be a boon to the Halos. That, too, would be entertaining (ignoring for a moment the pesky implication that such a scenario indicates a serious injury to one of our starters).
Either way, I suppose, I'll be entertained, so I should hardly complain.
I'm starting to think, though, that the Angels could afford about any free agent contract they wanted if they auctioned off some man-dates with Juan Rivera. The love for Juan is overwhelming here at Halos Heaven. As Matt Welch pointed out a few weeks ago, Juan Rivera might just be the best fourth outfielder the Angels have ever had.
But is he the most beloved, or at least man-loved, fourth outfielder in Angels' history? I reckon so.
What would you pay for a date with Juan Rivera?
