High Price for Miguel... Tejada?

http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/angels/la-sp-angels3dec03,1,5544411.story?track=rss&c track=1&cset=true

"Tejada, 32, would cost less in talent, but the Orioles are believed to be seeking pitcher Jered Weaver and Brandon Wood, and Moreno seems very reluctant to trade Wood, a power-hitter prospect who could be the Angels' shortstop in 2009. The Angels would prefer to trade Santana or Saunders and a lesser prospect."

Sounds sort of ridiculous to me. Thoughts?

Good one Angelos.
That is more than we woud have traded the first time.
Um.........

by hauldog on Dec 3, 2007 12:49 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

yea thats rediculous
we could offer Jered Weaver, Wood, and Ervin Santana/Adenhart/Saunders to be front runners for Johan Santana.

Why would we ever offer a big league, huge upside pitcher and our top offensive prospect for an aging, injury prone, expensive player?  Hahahaha its insulting to hear thats what the orioles want for Tejada.

This trade would make neither help us or hurt us for next year but we would be much worse off after next season.

Injury prone???
Tejada is far from being injury prone. If Im not mistaken he had the longest active "iron man" consecutive game streak until he got hit by a pitch last season and broke his hand.

As for the deal, the O's are on crack. But if you want to call Tejada injury prone, your on crack.

yea I changed that later down the thread
but still its ridiculous to trade weaver and wood for Tejada

by BoulderBrian on Dec 3, 2007 10:00 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I definitely . . .
agree on that one. Thats ways too much to give up for Tejada.

Weaver for Tejada Straight Up
That would be my first and final offer.

by Rev Halofan on Dec 3, 2007 1:14 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

meh
Jered Weaver has a ton of upside and I would hate to see him go be a star somewhere else.  But after looking at Tejada's stats I am very impressed.  He had played 162 games (played in every single game) in 6 consecutive seasons, 2001-2006, until last year when he played 133.  His 162 game averages are:

     .287  .344  .477 (BA/OBP/SLG) with 27 HR and 106 RBI

He is 31 and I am sure he can play for 5-6 more years with 2 more years on his contract at 13M annually.

As I think more about this I think Weaver for Tejada would be a great trade.  We would lose 1 of our proven big league starters for a proven big league SS.  Tejada is a solid defender and we would be able to keep our farm intact with this deal.  Also if we made this trade we would not have to really do much in terms of improving our team for the rest of the offseason because we would fill our hole at SS/3B and have someone as a fear factor behind Vlad.

That is ridiculous of the O's
I wouldn't give up Wood or Weaver straight up for this steroid user, yet alone both!

What the hell are the Orioles thinking? This doesn't bode well for them if they want to trade Tejada, Bedard, Roberts or anyone considering how laughable this is. I'm sure baseball people at the meetings are going to have a chuckle when they hear this one. The O's are a joke.

Plus, since his name is most likely going to come up in the Mitchell Report plus the previous allegations to go along with that, I wouldn't even give up Santana alone for him.

Keep him away from the Angels and just stick with trying to trade for MCab.

by Angels on Dec 3, 2007 1:43 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

It would be a great trade....
...for the Orioles, and I am 100% sure the Angels won't do it.

by Angels on Dec 3, 2007 1:53 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

So when he was better in 2006
he was worth Aybar and Santana.

Now, in 2007 as his decline is more evident, he's worth Wood and Weaver?

Give up on life already, Peter.  You're wasting everyone's time and you run a failure of a team for a reason.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Dec 3, 2007 2:00 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Not to mention that...
..the decline started right after his name came up in steroid allegations. It's pretty obvious what's happening here. His name is also going to be on the Mitchell report, so he'll be a distraction.

haha
yeah, who wants tejada now? everyone complaining about the cabrera deals kept thinking tejada was just some spare part we could get.

peter gammons mentions that the marlins arent asking for both adenhart and santana anymore. Id expect this to be done by tomorow night.

Agree
The MCab deal will be done by the end of the onwer's meeting.  At this point its either MCab or no one.  Johan is just a dream, I don't know if Torii has enough pull to get him here.  Worst case scenario, we still have HK47 and outstanding pitching depth next season.
I hate the Red Sox...

by Crapper John MD on Dec 3, 2007 8:45 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

If Gammons's reporting is accurate
(which is a big if), then we have to get this deal done.  It's the best that we can hope for: Kendrick, Mathis, Santana or Adenhart, and a lesser prospect (i.e., Willits).  I would do that deal and be very excited about next season.

remember the Mitchell report
Is coming out soon, Don't pick up a guy who could very likely be on it. A few teams in the AL have historically been 'juiced'. This is an institutional thing not just a player thing, players over the years change management and coaches don't
Teams that have always been juiced;
Baltimore, Texas, NYY, Bos, and in the past Oak (I don't think its as rampant as in the 80's and early 90's)
never do a trade with any of these teams in my opinion, usually leads to trouble.

If M Tejada can be had cheap - i.e. Ervin Santana and Aybar as offered before, then maybe its worth the risk, but don't sell out to get a guy who is going to have the steriod spotlight on him for the next couple of years

FYI
[The Angels] also exchanged proposals with Baltimore for slugger Miguel Tejada, and they've expressed interest in Minnesota ace Johan Santana and Orioles ace Erik Bedard.

Mig-C
Must wait till after lunch.  Another random blog...

Miguel Cabrera continues to be a hot topic at the Winter Meetings but nothing was imminent Monday morning as Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest wasn't due to arrive at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center until Monday afternoon.

The Marlins are expected to resume talks with both the Angels and Dodgers regarding Cabrera.

Given that Perez is on the Marlins' payroll ...
... that's quite a statement about a giy they are trying to peddle.

Just a gut feel ...
But I think the Angels' reported "interest" in Tejada is overblown.

The Orioles are going crazy
First they want Wood and Weaver for Tejada. HAHA

Now according to mlbtraderumors.com the Orioles want more for Bedard than the twins want for Johan Santana.  HAHA they must be the joke of the winter meetings today.

by BoulderBrian on Dec 3, 2007 1:31 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

not that ridiculous
bedard was incredible last year and has more than 1 season left on his contract i believe. you aim high if you hope to land high bud. now if they hold on to that demand, thats another story. but even then, why not? hes the first legit pitcher theyve had in forever

by ihearhowie2.0 on Dec 3, 2007 4:03 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

aiming high is one thing
but asking for the 4 best prospects from teams for 1 pitcher who had 1 great year and contract expires after 1 year is crazy

Fashionably Late to the Party!
" * For readers who questioned Dodger GM Ned Colletti's late arrival here, he's not the only one. Los Angeles Angels GM Tony Reagins, who has already made an offseason splash by signing center fielder Torii Hunter and trading shortstop Orlando Cabrera for pitcher Jon Garland, will arrive in Nashville on Monday night along with manager Mike Scioscia. Both men are coming from the Dominican Republic, where they were checking on the progress of Angels prospects and taking in winter league games."
