Cabrera in shape?
Apparantly Mike Napoli has been working out with Miguel FatCab. Miggy has claimed that his oath to get into shape is working, most would think this is a ploy to eleviate any concerns about his bad habits. But Napoli has confirmed this and says, "He looks, good.... He's starting to slim down, and he's getting real strong."
If our main concern about this guy is his weight, defense at third being second, maybe this is the best time to pull the trigger. I love Howie and think he will be a star. But you have to remember that our younger guys are all 'possibly' going to be stars this guy is the real deal. think of it as getting rid of a pitcher who's a head case (Santana) and a great young second baseman to get the future A-Rod.

i get the impression
i feel like the marlins will come back to us one more time, make an offer we dont like, and then miguel will play for florida this year.
i just dont get good vibes from this one anymore.
Pretty much correct.
Howie "IS" a star
But, if you want to trade one star for another, fill one hole while creating another, while taking on extra salary and dumping several good prospects, then by all means -- go ahead and screw the team up.
Well, I think everyone knows my opinion now.

create a hole?
because hes not playing short.
well?
its either figgins at third and howie at 2nd or figgins at 2nd and cabrera at 3rd.
i dont see the hole created. izturis and aybar have short.

should also mention
we're not dealing both adenhart and santana so either way, wed still have a full rotation +1 starter waiting.
reggie willits, if he was a 4th player, isnt seeing any playing time on this team anymore anyway.
in comparison to the dodgers, who would have to be dealing their best pitching prospect, starting center fielder, starting 3rd baseman or starting 1st baseman, this trade would hurt our team the least.
same with the white sox. they already have a weak rotation. what are they gonna do? trade their pitching prospects looking to fill in this year or next?
we would lose a starting 2nd baseman and he would be replaced by the guy who hit .330 for us last year and has started for us for 5 years.

Figgins is not on par with Howie/Cabrera
By keeping Howie and forgetting Cabrera, we prepare ourselves for the impending return of the great Dallas McPherson.
Seriously though, we let throw down the gauntlet for our own players to fill 3B.

dallas mcpherson
heres to another year of losing in the playoffs when we cant score runs against good pitching.
howie kendrick is great, one of my favorite players on the team, but this is so stupid.
miguel and vlad and hunter in the middle of the line up makes EVERYONE on the team better. specifically hitters in the 1 and 2 spots will be seeing so many strikes.
vlad + hunter and anderson with howie hitting 7th or 8th will sure be fun.
not.

You said yourself
But our improved offense will easily make up for the the difference and will help us avoid selling out our future.

Really is howie a star?
Will Howie win a batting title one day...probably
but until he does for a FULL season it is all speculation.
Get the guy with the Guaranteed 30+ HRs .315+ BA
And it doesnt create a hole, Figgy plays second 80% of the time with Itzuris playing the rest.

Robitussin?
Good for the Tigers... I hope they save us from our own stupidity.

haha
if that happened, wed have no chance in the playoffs for the next 5 years between detroit, cleveland, new york and boston

And when Napoli is injured
by Los Angeles de Anaheim on Dec 4, 2007 9:20 AM PST up reply actions
man, you love prospects
mathis was a non factor offensively so i dont get what the big problem with losing him is. you can get his defense form anywhere.
i think you just tie your heart to homegrown prospects and overvalue them.
do you think detroit would be sulking if they win a world series next year with cabrera and dontrelle but in 4 years they dont have maybin and miller, two guys who are as of now huge risks?
not unlike wood and adenhart.
