M-Cab to Tigers...????

Strolling through the mlbtraderumors.com page there is a headline stating that they're close to making this happen. I hope this isn't true or i'm gonna be mad at Dave Dombroski for being a jerk. Here's what it says:

Marlins/Tigers Cabrera/Willis Blockbuster
Ken Rosenthal has an update with a whopper of a trade rumor.

The Marlins and Tigers are talking about a monster deal that would send Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis over to the Tigers for Andrew Miller, Cameron Maybin, and others.  Dave Dombrowski has always worked well with the Marlins, his former team.

Well, maybe we can go after Mike Lamb...I think that dude is a stud! Any comments fellow halo bros?

Lamb=Lame
No offense, I would have traded for him last year when we could have gotten him dirt cheap off the Astros midseason.  But now, he doesn't fit.
I'm a gutless, two-faced little b!tch.

Don't blink
The Marlins are just trying (again) to create competition and get us to up our offer.  Kendrick, Mathis and Adenhart...they'd be crazy not to take our offer.

by gohalos on Dec 4, 2007 9:56 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
the reason I don't really believe it is that our rumored package for JUST Cabrera is better than the Tigers' rumored package for Cabrera AND Willis.

Then again, if the offer is really there, I can see the Marlins DEFINITELY wanting Miller and Maybin.  Those guys will be ridiculous.

Go After Santana
This Detroit/Florida trade talk is just preliminary.  Beyond Miller and Maybin, the Tigers don't have the cheap prospects that the Marlins want or need.  We should go after Johan with a package of Ervin, Willits and Wood.  We would be hard pressed to beat the Red Sox with a rotation of Beckett, Santana, Dice-k and Bucholz and Ortiz, Manny, Youkalis, and Ellsbury in their lineup.

by AngelsFanInMinnesota on Dec 4, 2007 10:10 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Try...
Weaver and Wood, For starters according to MLBTrader.com.  And would probably involve some of our other cherished talent.  I see Johan costing us as much as M-Cab.

I'm kind of hoping that if we can't secure Johan that the Yankees do.  And we need Miguel, like now!

Word is...

Booth Newspapers' Danny Knobler says the general suspicion is that the Marlins are using the Tigers in order to pressure the Angels in Miguel Cabrera talks.

Well they definitely could be incahoots being that
both leyland and dombrowski were former marlins employees. It must just be a tactic to pressure the halos.

Marlins Brain Trust
Almost all of the current Marlins Brass at this time  are former Expos front office/scouts. Remember the Marlins were bought by the former owner of the Montreal Expos. When that happened the owner brought all his employees over to the Marlins leaving the then Expos with no front office staff.

Maybe this helps the Angels being Stoneman was part of the front office staff when the current Marlins owner was owner of the Expos.

Dombrowski was long gone by the time Loria bought the Marlins.

we'll see
that deal would be a monster but if they were giving up both, wouldnt it be like 6 or 7 players for both cabrera and willis?

if theyre asking for our ace prospect, best young talent, a young catcher and a CF/SP, just for cabrera, wouldnt the deal for both be asinine?

that would be no less than 5 players id assume.

by ihearhowie2.0 on Dec 4, 2007 10:24 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

not to mention
these guys are indeed monster prospects, but arent they still a couple years away? or am i wrong?

wouldnt hanley be on his way out by the time these guys were seriously fulfilling potential, hence making them uncompetitive with just hanley, and then mediocre when ramirez is gone?

by ihearhowie2.0 on Dec 4, 2007 10:26 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Both spent time in the majors last year
they could break the camp with the team this year.  The Tigers were morons for starting the clock on both of them if it was before they were ready (which I DEFINITELY think was the case on Maybin).  Either way, both guys are starters by '09.  Maybe earlier if it's with the Marlins.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Dec 4, 2007 10:44 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

mlb.com
A source told MLB.com that the Tigers are interested in either/or, not necessarily both. It is considered doubtful that there will be enough in return for the Marlins to swing such a mega-deal.

The Fish are fakin'...
M. Cab, and D. Willis are not going anywhere... not to Detroit, not to Anaheim, not anywhere.

They keep throwing shit out there in return for those 2 guys, and then back off.  They are gonna piss off enough GM's and owners, and no one is gonna want to deal with them.  Arte has sorta already said this.

Maybe once they realize that no one will put up with their shenanigans, the price will come down.

Santana
Just heard from a friend that we are meeting with minnesota this afternoon?  Anybody confirm this??

by Hapyorange on Dec 4, 2007 12:01 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Does not surprise me
Tony the Ninja has already shown that he can jump in and pull off a free agent signing (Torii) or trade (OC for Garland) with little warning.  The twins need a centerfielder and 3rd basemen.  They also want starting pitching in return for Johan.  Packaging Wood, Willits, and either Ervin or Saunders is a very attractive offer.  Offering all 4 would definitely get it done.

espn.blog
An earlier report mentions a possible Dodgers trade for Bedard, while also confirming the Angels/Twins discussions:

The Yankees and Twins haven't talked at all so far Tuesday about Johan Santana, amid increasing indications Santana is going to be dealt to Boston. The Twins are also talking to the Angels, however.

Anyone else believe
this is merely a response to the Marlins' "we're talking to Detroit" move? a counter bluff?

that having been said, I'd be thrilled to get Santana

by ghostofwallyjoyner on Dec 4, 2007 12:36 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

If that's true......
.......that's probably a better offer than what we were giving them, yes?

Miller AND Maybin are pretty high caliber prospects.

Willis? Who wants him?
2006: W/L 10-15, ERA 5.17, 146k, 87BB, WHIP 1.60.

All these pitchers had better year's than Willis:

Dave Bush, 100 year-old Greg Maddux who was pitching at Petco, 101 year old Tom Glavine, 110 year-old Jamie Moyer, Josh Fogg, Livan "Fat Man" Hernandez, and he just edged out Woody Williams.

Career
2003   14-6     3.30
2004   10-11    4.02
2005   22-10    2.63
2006   12-12    3.87
2007   10-15    5.17

He basically is Ervin Santana.  I hope Detroit pays big for him.

by powerninja on Dec 4, 2007 12:06 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

ya
something doesnt seem right there.

why not take those same 2 prospects, send them to baltimore for bedard, 2 for 1.

bedard is a million times better than dontrelle. dontrelle is just a name.

if im the tigers, why burn prospects on miggy when those same guys can get you an ace, something you need much more.

NEWS
3:28 p.m., from Peter Gammons
  • The Twins and Red Sox are getting closer to finalizing a Johan Santana deal. Boston has sweetened its offer by adding a fifth player to the the offer -- outfield prospect Ryan Kalish, a ninth-round draft pick in the 2006 out of Red Bank Catholic High School (Shrewsbury, N.J.).
  • The Marlins and Angels are serious about moving Miguel Cabrera to the Angels. Expect Florida to get Howie Kendrick, Nick Adenhart, Jeff Mathis and a prospect from L.A. for the third baseman.

The idea of Mike Napoli helping M-Cab get into shape... I just want to see these Angels get Cabby!  I don't know how we get Santana with the talent we'll deal to the Marlins, but I want to see Cab in an Angel Uni.

Santana for 3 players?  Weaver, Wood, and Rivera/Willits.

Cabrera for 4 players? Kendrick, Adenhart, Mathis, Willits/Aybar

Who do we believe? Rosenthal has been pushing this Detroit thing all day and Gammons never mentions it. Gammons believes the Angels will get Cabrera.

Stark: no talk with Marlins
4:49 p.m., from Jayson Stark
  • The Twins and Angels continue to talk about a Johan Santana trade. Many of the same players mentioned in the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes -- Howie Kendrick, Brandan Wood, Nick Adenhart, and possibly Jeff Mathis or Reggie Willits -- would be included in a package for Santana.
  • It is believed that the Angels haven't talked with the Marlins since last night, and Miguel Cabrera is off their radar screen -- at least for now.

Sir La Velle
But...

The Angels have stepped up their interest and are expected to meet with them. The Twins are believed to like Jared Weaver as part of the deal, but you'd think that power-hitting infield prospect Brandon Wood.

The Angels don't play around. Look at how they signed Vladimir Guerrero, trade for Jon Garland and signed Torii Hunter. This could be interesting.

What about Hank Blalock?
Read rumors Texas might be interested in moving him in a deal.  He'd be a nice fit, but would Texas trade him in an inter-division deal?
