HalosHeaven Fantasy Baseball League

It's been built.  I'm thinking that 12 teams would be about right.  Go ahead and shoot me an email if you're interested.  Since there is more than 12 members of this site, it's going to have to be somewhat exclusive (Read: competitive).

I think it would be cool to have two or three divisions (leagues).

D1: All-Stars (10 years + of fantasy experience)

D2: Pros (5-10 years of fantasy experience)

D3: Rookies (0-5 years of fantasy experience)

Also, what would be cool, would be to do it like the FA Premiership.  The last three finishers from the All-Stars go down to the Pros, and the top 3 finishers from the Pros move up to the All-Stars, and vice-versa for the bottom three of Pros and top three of Rookies.

The only problem is, I can't commish all three divisions.  So we would need a volunteer to be commissioner of the lower divisions.

I'm down for whatever, just let me know.

I am definitely down to get into one of these.
Just wondering what you will run the leagues through, Yahoo, sportline, etc?  I would consider myself a pro in terms of experience.

I'll throw in some interest for Rookie Ball.
Now what do we need to do, email you?  I imagine there's some sort of online draft that we'll go through.  Seems like that could take hours and a lot of beer...  What's the typical routine?

And is this where you are:

Check
I'm in for Rookie League.
Nothing better than more reasons to get away from the school work! hehe
*yawn* Offseason?

Me too
I'd do rookie league

I'd recommend ESPN (i know, eastern bias) because they do live scoring for free, unlike Yahoo.

I messed with Texas!

by Los Angeles de Anaheim on Feb 17, 2007 2:14 PM PST reply actions

sign me up.
i'd be interested in the pro league.

by pedro guerrero on Feb 17, 2007 2:22 PM PST reply actions

I'd like to join
I have been playing since about 96, so I guess i could go in the top spot if available. I alway want to know where the league would be.  I have done Yahoo lately, sandbox back in the old free days.  ESPN now has free fantasy baseball, but i have never played there

by Zookeeper on Feb 17, 2007 3:02 PM PST reply actions

All In
rookie league
can't we get in one of the sites that we don't need a commish?

by mdangel on Feb 17, 2007 4:13 PM PST reply actions

Count me in
I'm definitely a rookie, what's baseball?
The future ain't what it used to be.

by UK Halo on Feb 17, 2007 4:30 PM PST reply actions

Yeah I have been doin a little research
and the ESPN with the free live stat tracking seems enticing, but who knows how it looks in terms of the interface and all that.  I have only used Yahoo the past 5-6 years so I am most comfortable with that, and I always pay the 10 bucks or whatever for StatTracker as it is definitely worth it.  Has anybody had better luck with another site?  Also, what stat categories and format of play will be used.  Rotisserie/head-to-head?  I prefer using a variety of stats that are far more relevant than the standard AVG/HR/ERA etc. and throw in ones like WHIP, OPS, and K/9 as well.  What do you guys usually play with or prefer?

by agermer on Feb 17, 2007 5:18 PM PST reply actions

Agreed
I love the yahoo stattracker, and it is definitely worth the cheap 10 dollars for it. I hate head-to-head cause there are just times where stats become worthless.  What good is a great week of 20hr when you only needed 5 to win that point for the week. I prefer points based, but roto is ok.. I have never faired well in roto, but I'm always willing to try it

by Zookeeper on Feb 17, 2007 5:38 PM PST up reply actions

Cool I am
glad to see somebody else likes stat tracker.  I have always done head to head so I can't give an honest opinion to roto, but, like you said, I am willing to try it if that seems to be the consensus.  Points based seems cool too, but I think it only works best for offensive stats, and not nearly as much for pitching.  The style of the league definitely determines the type of players drafted and when they are played.

To summarize my vote:

Head to head (or points)
Expanded and customized stats
Yahoo with stattracker ($10 and optional)

BTW, I am definitely willing to commish the D2 league, provided everyone takes it seriously and participates consistently.  I can only assume that shouldn't be a problem but I just wanted to emphasize my competitive nature haha.

"Fantasy Experience" and Competition...
Guys, what is there we do exactly?

"...provided everyone takes it seriously and participates consistently."

I thought we pretty much selected a team, then sat back and talked shit?

by Bilko 420 on Feb 17, 2007 7:37 PM PST up reply actions

Haha yeah
you are right that is the point for the most part.  I have had a couple frustrating experiences in the past when people don't do anything for a week (update lineups, start pitchers, respond to trade proposals, etc.) so I just wanted to emphasize that it throws the rest of the league off, particularly in head to head competition.

by agermer on Feb 17, 2007 8:00 PM PST up reply actions

there is plenty to do...
you get to pull your hair out when vlady helps you, but hurts your other team cause someone else has him. you get to tell people all about your team at work, eventhough they couldn't care less.
As for pitching in a points league... it does work well if you know what everything should be worth. IP, W, CG, SO, SV and K are positive, and everything else is a negative biting into your huge points racked up from IP.
I have finely tweaked the points system pretty well to make the pitchers and offense worth as close as your gonna get to each other. as long as innings limits and roster moves limits are used.

by Zookeeper on Feb 17, 2007 8:07 PM PST up reply actions

Interested
in the Pro or Rookie league.  I'm right around 5 years, so I dunno.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Feb 17, 2007 9:11 PM PST reply actions

Allright...
maybe a change of plans.  it seems like no one here has 10+ years of experience (including me), and that's not exactly necessary per say.  How bout this:  If you feel like you are good enough to play in a league with people who have alot of experience, sign up for D1.

All I'm doing is trying to round up 12 guys that are going to stay competitive throughout the season.  I have two so far.  If someone else wants to try and round up 12 more guys to play in a less-competitive league, that's their project.  And after we have three divisions filled out, then we can talk about other stuff.  We need players for the "All-Stars" first.

So shoot me an email (you can find it in my profile) and lets get this thing started.

go angels

I'm interested in 10+
I'd gladly play in any league, honestly, but do fit the D1 profile.

I vote for Yahoo. Great, easy-to-use interface.

And I apparently am the biggest nerd of all here, since I actually have done fantasy for 10 years (scary). Back in '97, my first year, I made the mistake of being a super-homer and choosing Angels very early in drafts (Gary DiSarcina and Ken Hill worked out terribly).

And I made the same mistake 2 years later by drafting Mo Vaughn really high. Oops.

by gquinonez on Feb 18, 2007 1:28 AM PST reply actions

old days...
I got you beat by a year, 96... high school fantasy nerd... I remember drafting some terrible dudes throughout the years. My best so far was colon last year though. luckily it was in a late round. For the  Cy Young winner to go after 2 of his own staff, and krod... that sucks.

by Zookeeper on Feb 18, 2007 8:11 AM PST up reply actions

I'm up for D1 or D2

As for homer picks, I had a three year run of Erstad (99-01). Two shit years with the All-Time career year for leadoff hitters sandwiched in the middle. Famine, Feast, Famine.

Haven't played a proper fantasy league before though, but I played fantasy baseball uk last year, although it doesn't seem as serious as the proper ones

Well, I've joined the league

Rookie Commish "Buddy" Selig
Hey Division 1 All-Stars, I'd figure I'd go ahead and put together a Yahoo! Fantasy Bush League that we'll at least have if we wanna use it.  But my question, I've set up a default setting Rotisserie league, and I'm curious if there's any reason not to select most if not all of the statistical categories?

Default pulls in the biggies like HR and RBI of course, but not various extra base hits and things of the "productive out" variety.  I'm tempted to just check off everything and let the chips fall where they may -- put Yahoo! Fantasy to work essentially.

Let me know when you get it set up
And, being completely new, I could go for anything.

by Clutch on Feb 18, 2007 3:28 PM PST up reply actions

Set me up
When you guys get everything set up sign me up for D1 or D2. Where ever space is providing.

I got me 8+ years of doing this at a variety of hosts, and modes.

by eyespy on Feb 18, 2007 3:06 PM PST reply actions

Psssst...

Hey guys,

I just set up a Yahoo! Fantasy Bush League for HH'ers.  I'm thinking the target profile is for those with zero to no fantasy experience -- if you have more than that it should not be held against you.  I'm thinking the only prerequisites are that you own at least one piece of officially licensed Angels gear -- yes, the gold and black hat with the little A's qualifies -- and that you take seriously and participate consistently in your smack talking.

Either way, if the managers choose to vote me out of office, we can turn over commissioner duties to someone else at any given time.  Who knows, I may even offer my resignation by week's end?  Actually this looks pretty fun.

Here's the league URL, but apparently I need to email you the ID and password to get in.

http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/halosheaven_bush

I'm pretty sure we can make changes to the draft, league settings, or stat categories at any time before the season begins.  So we'll take our cues from the Fantasy pros here on the site and mirror their league if we choose.

I also would really like to see Rev. participate..?  Oh yeah, maybe it should be mentioned that potential managers possess at least somewhat of a small sense of humor.  Not that it's gonna be all jokes, but just no anger.  If you want in, sound off here and I'll email you at your profile address.

Guys, also a tip for you who may be really slow -- just go make yourself a free email address at Yahoo! to use, it'll keep your school and work addresses hopefully a little less spammy.  Just 'cause I'm paranoid, I'm asking for you to sound off here so there's less chance of troll infiltration and it stays HH friendly.

Man, I can't decide, they're all so good?
Adam, we need to connect off-board or even have some HH discussion here, but I kinda wanna see what setup you've chosen for your league.  I guess specifically, statistical categories tracked, scoring type, and then various selections regarding roster settings, etc.

HalosHeaven High A also still has managerial positions available.  So if you've been remotely interested in giving fantasy baseball a try, shoot an email or make a request right here in this thread.  I mean, what better place to try it out than amongst fellow Angels fans on this board, who sorta almost never hurl profane and expletive-laden insults at one another, right?

Anyhoo, we'll talk.

Also, this may help
some people out if they're trying to make a decision about joining.  Anyway, this is what we're talking about doing...

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/baseball/rules/

I'm also hoping we might get a fan in some non-US time zone, and therefore be able to totally screw them over in the online draft (fingers crossed).

this is great guys.
i only have 5 spots left in the D1 league.  so you gotta hurry.

after that is filled up, i suppose someone else will commish the D2, since D3 is already underway thanks to Bilko!

It'll be a fun year.

I'd love to, but seriously a rookie.
I'd love to get in on the league.  I did a half-season two years ago, so while I know the basics I'd definitely count myself a rookie.  Please let me know exactly what to do, and I'm IN.
