I'm Moving To Hollywood. What do I do?

My roommate and I have lived in orange county our whole lives but due to a lack of job opportunities for graduates of film school in the oc we are re-locating to Hollywood.

What I would like to know is the experienced and wise tips and tricks of following the Angels while living in LA.  I've been spoiled for the past 5 years living in Orange and Tustin (about 10 mins from the the big A).   Now I'm going to be about 45 mins from the big A (according to google maps) but we all know that traffic between the two counties can be pretty nasty so that typically would be... ? on a week night?

Google map has 101 to the 5 as the most direct route but i'm wondering if there are preffered alternate routes that people take.

Also there is the television issue... what will I be missing?  Has the team really been converted to the LAA and thus they are as available to watch on TV in LA as they are in OC or will I have to purchase something extra to see the games?

This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

EASY
I live downtown - teevee is exactly the same, no issues at all.

5 south to the games, carpool lane at Buena Park if you have a passenger, Gene Autry Exit, Katellla if you are solo.

Traffic is lightest on mondays and tuesdays.

thanks man
What time would be the latest you can leave that area to make a 7pm game?

On a normal weeknight
I wouldn't try to leave Los Angeles of Los Angeles for Los Angeles of Anaheim later than 5.  I don't know if coming from Los Angeles of Hollywood would be any better.

the worst part
is the gridlock around the stadium that forms after 6:20 - so once you get the hang of the drive to OC, you will be able to time it backwards so you get to the offreamp no later than 6:15...

We just go early and eat outside the stadium and if we are really early watch batting practice...

I live in East Hollywood (Silver Lake)
And if I want to catch a 7:05, I have to leave at 5:30, unless I have a passenger, in which case 6 can work.

I cannot in good conscience, however, recommend Katella.... I think Orange Grove's yr better bet for traffic. Particularly if yr gonna park off-site.

And weekend day games should only be attended via Amtrak -- take the red line to Union Station, hop on the 11 or 12 o'clock, look for the Rev, then get the 20 oz Pale Ale from the dining car & settle in...

Orange Grove?
You mean Orangewood?

For commuting between LA and ANA
I'd recommend.....a helicopter.

As for TV, there is no separate O.C. market. We get LA's TV so that's not gonna be a problem.

boldly wear your hat
another tip is to wear your red hat around town and give dirty looks to people wearing blue hats... i do that allot and it's nice... this is more effective in los angeles proper (in hollywood everyone's on drugs so they don't really care about which team you support).

after you move, (unless you have season seats) you'll find out that you watch and listen to the games more than you actually attend them in 3-d... that's because traffic sucks eternally.

i moved to the west side last year for the same reasons... there's plenty of industry up here.

You can fly home on weeknights.
When I've travelled from Orange/Tustin/Anaheim up to LA on a weeknight after 9 pm it's an absolute breeze. Straight up the 5 and your at the 4way in 25-30 minutes.

I don't envy you the drive down in the afternoons though. I'd make myself familiar with the various options and listen like mad to the traffic reports on KFWB and KNX, and let them tell you the quickest way, that is of course unless you have a GPS that tells you the best way per their traffic reports...

If there's at least 2 of you perhaps carpooling it all the way beats the hell of the southbound 5 in the afternoons. You could take carpool S110 to carpool E91 all the way to the 91/5 interchange, the 5 is generally clear as a bell in the afternoon once you get past the 91 interchange...

Good luck!

zig zag
zig zag your way east and south  - depending on traffic and your point of origin - 5n to 101n after the game is the quickest though

underground hiphop shows
if you're cool enough to know where they are (which i am not), you probably can prevent any problems by wearing a black hat as do most gangstas trying not to get shot by another set :)

even when one is in law enforcement
A cop bar is the place yougo when you are up to no good.

At least in Los Angeles. Maybe the men and women of law enforcement in other municipalities are not teamed up against the citizenry, but I have too many LAPD stories to be convinced that my local blue would not turn on me or anyone in a half-second if there precious pensions were on the line.

And
I've seen enough bad art to think all artists can be outshined by bobo the gorilla and a tube of pastels. Don't lump in the majority with the (spectacular) minority.

And yeah, plenty of cops are honorable, but that does not make the thin blue line unassailable. In fact, the ultimate proof of a free society is the freedom to critique the police, yeah?

Not in law enforcement.
I may be working for MLB.com at dodger stadium though.

Also, I thought underground hip hop was for rapping about outerspace, futuristic societies, and cryptic stuff.... nerd stuff.  Main stream is about being gangstah and trying to get rich or die trying.  Either way I'm usually not rockin' hats at shows.  It gets too hot.

hmm just doesn't sound right. i mean it's fundamentally problematic (at least socially) to have a job where you're considered a failure if you're not looking for everyday citizens to get in trouble... after all that's the beat.

i don't envy the job, for sure

in reply
Law enforcement officers live thier lives under the same laws as the rest of society. If you have not been given a warning instead of a ticket if that was a possibility, it was likely because you were a dick.

Law enforcement, like almost every other professions, is a fraternity. A fraternity that says I will place my life in my brother's hands every shift. Now lets compare that metaphorically to your life. If your 'bra' walks into your shop to buy a bong errrr water tobacco pipe, are you going to give him a discount. This is a guy you probably wouldn't lend 10 dollars let alone trust with yourlife!

Police
enforce the laws, they do not create them. If you don't like the laws, write to your representative. I guess my question would be, did you break the law? If not, I would assume that you have nothing to worry about.

How
can you possible compare enforcing the laws created by the very poeple you voted for to Nazism? Last time I checked, no one was sending you to a camp just because you were an artist. This very likely would have been the case in Deutschland 70 years ago. We live in a society where you can say that you don't like the laws and change them. I realize that you want to say something spectacular for effect, but that is just (to use your words) weak. If you want to live in a society without laws, feel free. There are many places in Africa and South America where lawlessness is available. I'll choose the alternative thank you.

If you want to discuss politics, at least do so in a manner that has some basis in reality. We live in a jeffersonian democratic republic; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All of which are protected by the very people you have been maligning. Next time you're marching in a demonstration, saying things that are unpopular, think about the people that have sworn to protect you even if they detest what you are saying.

Getting a ticket for speeding = keeping the roads safe for everyone. Getting arrested for DUI or Domestic Violence = keeping society safe. Whining about 'the man' being out to get you = time to smoke less pot.

Your idealism is out of touch with reality
The police have been reduced to toll collectors.

The ridiculous effort and cost that it takes to challenge rogue policemen basically puts the citizenry in harms way - with no true recourse.

Jeffersonian ideals (and Madison-penned limits on state power) have been weakened in the name of traffic cops giving ticky-tack violation tickets - of course, many cops are cowards, too afraid to confront real criminals out htere ... and all this does is create a DEEP antipathy between the people and "the system"...

While
I always like discussing things with you, I think we once again have a fundamental difference in our way of looking at things. We have disagreed in the past about the few discredting the majority, and I feel this is another example. I would hope that you would be pissed at whichever individual police officer drew your ire instead of blaming an entire, very necesary profession. I would also ask what exactly was the situation that has caused all of this emotion to exist in the first place?

All I can say has been said. Law Enforcement is not law creation. If you don't like the laws, voice your opinion, and vote. I voted for Nader, but I can't force anybody else to do so, so I live with what the majority votes for. You can disagree and be vocal about it. A Law Enforcement Officer will stand beside you and protect you from those who would do you harm for being vocal about your opinion.

When you go home tonight, unlock your door, and find all of your belongings still there, thank a police officer. When you drive down the road in a manner that is safe everyday, thank a police officer. When Mrs Rev doesn't worry (mostly) about being raped when she leaves her home, thank a police officer. For as much as you dislike, and disrespect law enforcement, think about what life would be like without them. The alternative is not a nice place.

I wanted to add
There is almost zero effort involved in challenging a 'perceived' bad cop. Penning a single note to the Sheriff, Chief, or Agency Director will get swift response. While you are innocent until proven guilty, it is exactly the opposite for a law enforcement officer who has been accused of wrong doing.
