I'm Moving To Hollywood. What do I do?
My roommate and I have lived in orange county our whole lives but due to a lack of job opportunities for graduates of film school in the oc we are re-locating to Hollywood.
What I would like to know is the experienced and wise tips and tricks of following the Angels while living in LA. I've been spoiled for the past 5 years living in Orange and Tustin (about 10 mins from the the big A). Now I'm going to be about 45 mins from the big A (according to google maps) but we all know that traffic between the two counties can be pretty nasty so that typically would be... ? on a week night?
Google map has 101 to the 5 as the most direct route but i'm wondering if there are preffered alternate routes that people take.
Also there is the television issue... what will I be missing? Has the team really been converted to the LAA and thus they are as available to watch on TV in LA as they are in OC or will I have to purchase something extra to see the games?
This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

EASY
5 south to the games, carpool lane at Buena Park if you have a passenger, Gene Autry Exit, Katellla if you are solo.
Traffic is lightest on mondays and tuesdays.

the worst part
We just go early and eat outside the stadium and if we are really early watch batting practice...

I live in East Hollywood (Silver Lake)
I cannot in good conscience, however, recommend Katella.... I think Orange Grove's yr better bet for traffic. Particularly if yr gonna park off-site.
And weekend day games should only be attended via Amtrak -- take the red line to Union Station, hop on the 11 or 12 o'clock, look for the Rev, then get the 20 oz Pale Ale from the dining car & settle in...

For commuting between LA and ANA
As for TV, there is no separate O.C. market. We get LA's TV so that's not gonna be a problem.

boldly wear your hat
after you move, (unless you have season seats) you'll find out that you watch and listen to the games more than you actually attend them in 3-d... that's because traffic sucks eternally.
i moved to the west side last year for the same reasons... there's plenty of industry up here.

You can fly home on weeknights.
I don't envy you the drive down in the afternoons though. I'd make myself familiar with the various options and listen like mad to the traffic reports on KFWB and KNX, and let them tell you the quickest way, that is of course unless you have a GPS that tells you the best way per their traffic reports...
If there's at least 2 of you perhaps carpooling it all the way beats the hell of the southbound 5 in the afternoons. You could take carpool S110 to carpool E91 all the way to the 91/5 interchange, the 5 is generally clear as a bell in the afternoon once you get past the 91 interchange...
Good luck!

even when one is in law enforcement
At least in Los Angeles. Maybe the men and women of law enforcement in other municipalities are not teamed up against the citizenry, but I have too many LAPD stories to be convinced that my local blue would not turn on me or anyone in a half-second if there precious pensions were on the line.

ummm....
And yeah, plenty of cops are honorable, but that does not make the thin blue line unassailable. In fact, the ultimate proof of a free society is the freedom to critique the police, yeah?

Not in law enforcement.
Also, I thought underground hip hop was for rapping about outerspace, futuristic societies, and cryptic stuff.... nerd stuff. Main stream is about being gangstah and trying to get rich or die trying. Either way I'm usually not rockin' hats at shows. It gets too hot.

ps here's a madlib: An |ART CRITIC/WRITER| gave me a ticket today and now I have to pay a $200 fine and appear in court, I really love |ART CRITIC/WRITER|(s).
hmm just doesn't sound right. i mean it's fundamentally problematic (at least socially) to have a job where you're considered a failure if you're not looking for everyday citizens to get in trouble... after all that's the beat.
i don't envy the job, for sure

Law enforcement, like almost every other professions, is a fraternity. A fraternity that says I will place my life in my brother's hands every shift. Now lets compare that metaphorically to your life. If your 'bra' walks into your shop to buy a bong errrr water tobacco pipe, are you going to give him a discount. This is a guy you probably wouldn't lend 10 dollars let alone trust with yourlife!

How
If you want to discuss politics, at least do so in a manner that has some basis in reality. We live in a jeffersonian democratic republic; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All of which are protected by the very people you have been maligning. Next time you're marching in a demonstration, saying things that are unpopular, think about the people that have sworn to protect you even if they detest what you are saying.
Getting a ticket for speeding = keeping the roads safe for everyone. Getting arrested for DUI or Domestic Violence = keeping society safe. Whining about 'the man' being out to get you = time to smoke less pot.

Your idealism is out of touch with reality
The ridiculous effort and cost that it takes to challenge rogue policemen basically puts the citizenry in harms way - with no true recourse.
Jeffersonian ideals (and Madison-penned limits on state power) have been weakened in the name of traffic cops giving ticky-tack violation tickets - of course, many cops are cowards, too afraid to confront real criminals out htere ... and all this does is create a DEEP antipathy between the people and "the system"...

While
All I can say has been said. Law Enforcement is not law creation. If you don't like the laws, voice your opinion, and vote. I voted for Nader, but I can't force anybody else to do so, so I live with what the majority votes for. You can disagree and be vocal about it. A Law Enforcement Officer will stand beside you and protect you from those who would do you harm for being vocal about your opinion.
When you go home tonight, unlock your door, and find all of your belongings still there, thank a police officer. When you drive down the road in a manner that is safe everyday, thank a police officer. When Mrs Rev doesn't worry (mostly) about being raped when she leaves her home, thank a police officer. For as much as you dislike, and disrespect law enforcement, think about what life would be like without them. The alternative is not a nice place.
