Angels Fans with Good Music Tastes...

It occured to me to write this previously, but i suppose there's never any time like the present to right past wrongs.

I now think more and more that one part of what I like about the regular HH posters (and our mighty shepard, the Rev himself) has been the regular refrences to our fine and descriminative taste in culture shown through random diaries/threads.  Be they your "desert island" favorites or your personal batting intro, time and time again the Halos Heaven community has demonstrated their musical superiority over not only the AL West, but the whole of the Major Leagues.

After reading the Deadspin post, I thought I'd take a brief moment to mention my appreciation of these, the most punk-rockingly credible music fans in baseball.

My brothers and sisters, I salute you!

This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

I'm just glad I found this place
I hear ya.  I'm just a newbie here but there is nothing I like more in this world than Angels Baseball and my punk rock.

suburban white male
It may have something to do with the main demograpic represented here and close proximity to a decent show every night.
I want a dolphin to be my pet.

I love punk rock too!
My favorite bands are Fall Out Boy and Avril LaVigne!

by Higz on Mar 28, 2007 11:57 AM PDT reply actions

But don't forget
New Found Glory and Good Charlotte.  They've got mascara and everything.

by Wytelitning on Mar 28, 2007 12:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Dude
I read this interview with Avril Lavigne a couple of years ago and they asked her who influenced her "punk rock" style or whatever, was it British bands like the Sex Pistols, etc. and her response went something like "Everybody always talks to me about these Sex Pistols guys. Who the hell are these guys anyway?"

I have never laughed so hard at Fantastic Sam's in my life.

Fuck yeah!
Were you getting the Evan Dando cut, bra'!?

Uh, no
it was actually a Bruce Foxton, thank you very much.

Oh man...
The pinnacle is when she was reading the Grammy nominees at the offcial announcement and prnounced Bowie to ryhme with "cow-ee."  Priceless...

by Brendo on Mar 28, 2007 4:26 PM PDT up reply actions

really?
Fall Out Boy and New Found Glory are pretty good espically New Found Glory but Avril Lavigne and Good Charlotte? I thought this post was for Angels fans with good music taste.

by thebigA on Mar 28, 2007 2:30 PM PDT up reply actions

No, not really
Just a little sarcasm.

And sorry but none of them are good, not even close.

by Wytelitning on Mar 28, 2007 2:32 PM PDT up reply actions

People can like what they want
but calling any of those bands punk is a crime.

"Pop-punk" is a contradiction in terms.

by Higz on Mar 28, 2007 2:32 PM PDT up reply actions

You are absolutely right.
Thanks for the clarification on the "pop-punk" thing, I certainly didn't mean to say people can't like them.

by Wytelitning on Mar 28, 2007 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Just making general statements
And yeah, all those bands do suck and I hate them. People buy/consume things that suck all the time. That's how Arby's stays in business!

by Higz on Mar 28, 2007 2:41 PM PDT up reply actions

I just think it's funny
that the TheBigA was taking you seriously.  I went to Inland Invasion in 2003 and this was when it was more punk rock (Bad Religion, The Vandals, X, Social D, Johnny Rotton, etc were all there) and I saw New found Glory get booed off stage after 1 and a half songs -one of the greatest moments I've ever been a part of.  I know a lot of people on here have good "concert stories"

by Hutch (someone took my name) on Mar 28, 2007 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I was there too, and booing like crazy.
Never seen a band so uncomfortable on stage.  Well at least not until Blink played, and I think they at least thought they would get some San Diego love.  Wrong crowd for both bands.

by Wytelitning on Mar 28, 2007 3:30 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, quite a sight
NFG goes on to a punch of drunk/high safety pin and mohawk wearing punkers-good choice of venue, guys.  I'm suprized they made it out alive.  And what was with everyone lighting shit on fire when Bad Religion went on? Blink actually wasn't as bad as I thought they were going to be, but they were still fish out of water.

by Hutch (someone took my name) on Mar 28, 2007 3:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Best show ever. Fire pits and all.
Graffin has said it was his favorite concert ever too.

I'll never forget Fat Mike joining Pennywise on stage to do his best Darby Crash impression with a "lexicon devil" cover.

by Wytelitning on Mar 28, 2007 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes
a-holes in the crowd have always been the "achilles heel" of the punk rock movement.
Captain, there are doubt's...

by Match Day 5 on Mar 29, 2007 10:39 AM PDT up reply actions

I hate to break it you, thebigA
but Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne all belong to the same crap-tastic "music" genre.

I'm in

Got to meet the director, Penelope Spheeris and everything.

no one else has done it
so I will have to mention one of my all time faves: The Cure
Come on already.....PLAY BALL!!!

I certainly hope
That Robert Smith gets on the Mike Napoli plan and starts losing weight.  I've only seen them live twice, but the 1st time, he even said on stage "sorry about the weight, been drinking with my mum and dad."

That's a bad sign.

Out of curiosity, older fan or newer one?  Just picked up the Charlotte Sometimes single on vinyl with the rediculous 11 minute live version of Faith.  A terribly indulgent waste of money, but love it nonetheless.

by 101halo on Mar 28, 2007 10:48 PM PDT up reply actions

way older fan..
from almost the beginning (in the US anyway) in the early 80's. One of my faves is Primary. Join the Dots, the B-sides is a kick ass collection.

Yeah
I've always loved Halo and never found the Friday i'm in love single it's on, so Join the Dots was a good way to go.  It's funny, between that song, the Depeche Mode song and our Angels I'm definitely all about the halos!

Uhoh... Here's I go.
Black Metal Genre: Emperor, Agalloch, IllNath, Mayhem, Burzum

You are the only person I've ever met who's heard of Green Carnation too. Best 50 minute song I ever heard.

I'm a huge fan,
of everything that The End Records puts out. Except the last Dissection (pre-suicide) album, that album was completely horrible and sounded nothing like Storm Of The Lights Bane.

PS: Victorious March, best song ever.

by Obscurity on Mar 29, 2007 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions

Goddamn!
V.M. is my all time favorite A.A. song. Absolutely EPIC CRUSHING DM. Makes me want to invade Poland or something.

Dead on about last Dissection. I'd kill myself too if I put that out after being in prison for 10 years.

I'm more of a Century Media guy but I like November's Doom, ULVER, and G.C.

DarkAngel hath spoken....

by darkangel01 on Mar 29, 2007 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't much care for Century Media
I think they put out too much of the brutal dm stuff that I don't like, same with Metal Blade.

Novembers Doom and Ulver are both amazing, well at least the pre-industrial Ulver. Check out Subteranean Masquerade, it's the lead vocalist from ND and also used to have the bassist (JWW) from Agalloch, it's like a super-band

by Obscurity on Mar 29, 2007 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Cool
I'll check 'em out.

You into Arch Enemy???

DarkAngel hath spoken....

by darkangel01 on Mar 30, 2007 5:45 PM PDT up reply actions

I think its funny..
that there is a "Black Metal" and a "Death Metal." If we're talking punk rock, I always preferred Bad Brains, Vandals, Descendents, Minor Threat, NOFX, Dead Kennedys, and X, and Lagwagon was the best of the "melodic" punk sect of the '90s, though I hardly care to try and separate it all out. Other than that, I love the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Deerhoof, Fugazi, Blonde Redhead, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Bowie, Scott Walker, Melt Banana, and the Drones.

by dmhead on Mar 29, 2007 11:39 AM PDT up reply actions

don't generalize my Lagwagon!!
Lagwagon DID belong in that group, being the first band signed to Fat Wreck Chords. Maybe they aren't punk rock in the traditional sense, but who is? You can make an argument for or against anybody. I just think they wrote great songs, head and shoulders above the other "melodic punk" bands from that era, and they always did it for the sake of making great music, not to become rich and famous.

by dmhead on Mar 30, 2007 10:27 AM PDT up reply actions

It's just that they are two
completely different genres. The way the song structure and the complexity of the music allows it to be two different genres.

by Obscurity on Mar 29, 2007 11:47 AM PDT up reply actions

One band: GG ALLIN and the Murder Junkies
Well, here's more:  Pre-Henry Rollins Black Flag, X, Dickies, Vandals, early-Social D, Exploited, Suicidal Tendencies, the Germs, anyone who played the Cuckoos Nest in CM or Safari Sam's/Fenders/Masque in the late 70s, early 80s.

by PieceOfAase on Mar 29, 2007 8:04 AM PDT reply actions

I like Suicidal....
...after they got Rocky George and went metal.
