Off-topic poll...

This isn't an Angels topic, but it is sort of sports related.  I'm curious who thinks Don Imus was rightfully fired from his radio job today....

I don't get the hoopla?
He has every right to say what he said.

His employer has every right to fire him.

I go to Rutgers
The only reason I'm pissed that he made the comment is that it turned 90% of students into a bunch of self-righteous shitheads who were practically tripping over each other in their scramble to more quickly denounce the "TYRANNY OF RACISM" and "SOCIAL OPPRESSION" that Don Imus brought into their lives.

Yeah kiddies, we're all against racism.  We're not all so insecure about ourselves that we need to beat each other to the "I'M MORE OFFENDED!" punch.  This is between Imus and the people on the basketball team, and no one else.  If they want to cancel his show because of a loss of sponsorship, that's their prerogative.  Personally, I would not can him for the comment alone, but I would if it lost me money.  'tis a business.

He's a shock jock.  If you want him to shut up, you STOP paying attention, you don't call in Jesse the adulterer and Jew-hater Al to preach morals on Good Morning America.  When he's picked up by another station (and he and his 2 million listeners WILL BE), the world will continue to spin.  So not a story.

I didn'at even know the word ho was racist
I went to a school in Santa Ana that was predominantly Hispanic and everyone said it...

I'm saying what he said was right, but I've heard worse.

I should be working right now...

I can understand that.
There was a video on CNN.com yesterday that making a big deal about how only blacks can use the word ho... similar to the n-word.  It made no sense to me.

That's retarded
"ho" doesn't carry racial conotations, it wasn't the focal word of social and racial prejudice for hundreds of years, and means the same thing to every race it's applied to.  There's only one word that really "belongs" to black people if you believe in such a concept, and Michael Richards can tell you what that is.

EDIT!!!
I'm NOT saying what he said was right, but I've heard worse.

Oops!  Please don't fire me too!

I should be working right now...

Lighten up, Pedro
I'm not voting for you as class President with that potty mouth.  In addition, Rex said you were a terrible first baseman, you backed down from Kirk Gibson for the role of clubhouse alpha dog in 1988, and your attorney said you were too dumb to mastermind that little drug trafficing incident you had a few years back.

I don't get it
Hasn't Imus pretty much been a jerk all along?  I mean, weren't his comments pretty much in character?  Why did it become a big deal of a sudden when a known jerk acts like a jerk?  Imus is not exactly new to the radio biz.

And the Oscar goes to....
Three 6 Mafia

[Verse 2]
Man it seems like I'm duckin dodgin bullets everyday
Niggaz hatin on me cause I got, girls on the tray
But I gotta stay paid, gotta stay above water
Couldn't keep up with my girls, that's when things got harder
North Memphis where I'm from, I'm 7th Street bound
Where people all the time end up lost and never found
Man these girls think we prove thangs, leave a big head
They come hopin every night, they don't end up bein dead
Wait I got a snow bunny, and a black girl too
You pay the right price and they'll both do you
That's the way the game goes, gotta keep it strictly pimpin
Gotta keep my hustle tight, makin change off these women, yeah

Bunch of hypocrites - Everybody.

This just proves my theory
that nothing good can come from talking about basketball. It's a game played by thugs for thugs, "Nappy-headed" or not.

Free Speech = Responsibility
While a myriad of double standards exist, if you talk the talk, you gotta walk the walk... Imus always bored me anyway.

But there is nothing quite like racial issues to get people higher up on their high-horse-soap-boxes, in fact, shrilling about racial slurs has become about as American as Apple Pie and Nappy-Headed Hos.

as a white female
I'm thinking of suing the rap "artists" for denigrating me and emotionally scarring me; they show simulated rapes, bondage, abuse, torture of women in their videos and they get all pissy about a comment from an old cantankerous old geezer? Bunch of damned hypocrites.

What he said wasn't right but this all up in arms bullshit has got to stop. Al Sharpton really needs to be put out of my misery-the guy has done more damage to put blacks than 1000 Imus' put together.

from an interview on "Today"
Meredith Vieira turned the tables on Rev. Al Sharpton this morning, blasting him for not doing enough to stop black rappers from using words like "ho" and "b**ch" in their lyrics while excoriating Don Imus for doing so. Snap!

Sharpton was on the "Today" show this morning to react to Imus' firing by MSNBC, and the Rev. repeated his contention that Imus' place on the "public" airwaves made him responsible -- and ultimately culpable -- for his "nappy-headed hos" remark. Vieira then challenged Sharpton, demanding to know why he didn't hold hip-hop and rap artists more responsible for "spreading the message" of demeaning and abusive language, and accusing Sharpton of perpetuating a "double standard."

The Rev. explained that his organization, National Action Network, was working to get more rappers with "positive messages" onto the airwaves, but acknowledged that those rappers weren't getting exposure.

In other words, don't make him think too hard. You make him think, you are picking on him because he's a poor picked on, abused, underprivileged black man.
