saunders goes to make way for colon

just saw on fox after the yanks vs bo sox game that saunders got optioned to make room for colon, i'm sure they want saunders starting every 5th day in the minors so thats why he was sent down.  but it seems like we could really use him.

but then again no one in the pen is pitching horrible so who would be sent down?

Temporary.
We all know he's coming back...........unless there's a MONSTER trade.

nah
too early for any trades. moseley will fill in for escobar until he's back and then the rotation is set.

is this surprising?
So the rotation is Lackey, Bartolo, Weaver, Santana, and Moseley? As well as Dustin has pitched, I would still prefer the lefty Saunders in the rotation until Escobar gets back. I think a starting staff needs a lefty anyway.

Its fine
No need to keep a pitcher on the roster for a few days when he wont even pitch. Escobar is back next week anyway.

the only way this makes sense....
is if Escobar is coming back pronto.

This is a tough situation for a team.  Nice problem to have, but do you date trade one of your stud 6 starters when so many of them have past injury issues?  Tough call.  Yet, you don't want to screw Saunders career for too long in the minors either, and it's not like our bullpen is real light os it makes much sense to make any of these guys the 4th reliever.

Barring trade and assuming we make playoffs, all 6 should be on a playoff roster somehow or another.

Saunders or Moseley?
If Escobar isn't back right away, does Saunders come back up after Moseley's next start? Or do they keep Moseley?

Staff writer Ben Villa says
Escobar is ready to pitch Tuesday.

"1.96 Starting five healthy: The main reason Saunders is being sent down is because Kelvim Escobar is ready to come off the disabled list and pitch Tuesday night against Detroit."

Confirmed by Giovanna:
"Escobar completed a 70-pitch bullpen workout Friday and is scheduled to be activated for Tuesday's game against Detroit"..

If Escobar is activated Tuesday,
somebody has to go somewhere.

Is it just me
...or does Saunders as our bullpen lefty/spot-starter sound a heck of a lot better than Carrasco right now?

it's not just you
it's anyone with any shred of common sense.

No Way
Saunders as a lefty starter is a lot more valuable than a guy who pitches 40-50 innings out of the bullpen a year.  For one, he allows us the flexibility to trade one of our starters for a bat and still have Moseley as our 6th starter in AAA.

you guys are all
forgettng that darren oliver looks like jc romeros second coming, i'd hate to see such talent like moseley/saunders kinda waste away in our bullpen though.
