A's Name change
Has anyone here read this article on the A's official site? link: http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061109&content_id=1738100&vkey=news_ oak&fext=.jsp&c_id=oak
Best quote:
"But the Mercury News reported that Wolff went so far as to propose "Fremont A's" and "Silicon Valley A's" to the council as names for the relocated club."
The Silicon Valley A's? Jesus Cristo, that is the lamest name for a baseball team I have ever heard of. There are many other articles on the new stadium. In all fairness, after looking at the different picture galleries of the artist renderings it looks like it is going to be a damn nice park, maybe even rivaling the Yankee's new park. I have to say the large grass area behind the stadium with the Jumbo Screen is a good idea.

Send me some lobsterS and we'll call it even
Well HA HA HA sal
Couldn't happen to a more deserving big-market club that chintzes out its patrons into believeing they are small market tarp-heads. Enjoy it, it is only getting started... you will be real sick of it in the third season when sportswriters mention the stupid team name yet agin instead of providing any meaningful analysis...

That's a good one.
- Funny you calling anybody else a shit-talker.
- I'm having a perfectly fun conversation with ladybug. Way to butt in and ruin it.
unfortunately
The name change? Oakland A's-that has at least some history there. The Fremont A's- it sounds like a minor league or little league name. The A's have finally started to make some money and it's burning a hole in Wolffffff's pocket.
<subliminal:send lobster>
The transportation plan is...
Name change: as I wrote in the THT preseason book:
will be worth the karmic retribution of A's fans having
to deal with the name [geographic location] Athletics
of [different, nearby geographic location] after having
taunted Angels fans for the last few years.
according to your little profile

That may be true
and it didn't reach the absurdity
We
Dipshit
Let me know when there is a city named Los Athletisimos.
Los Angeles is actually a city you clown.
Oh wait -- my bad.
Um still a dipshit
Los Athletimos I assume is your attempt to say The Athletics Athletics in Spanish. I was merely reminding your no talent ass, that Los Angeles is actually a city.
As far as sponging off of a city. Nice call on picking Fremont. Of all the places to allign the team with in the Bay Area they pick that shit hole? Nice work Wolff.
You referencing a large fan base is humorous as well. The miniscule attendance Fremont takes in is laughable, I think large fan base and A'ss is mutually exclusive. Maybe you should start tarping your comments so they seem full of thought?
Clown
OK
Well sort of, sport -- I do think that's funny. Bug's comment was to point out the relative ridiculousness of the Angel's name and the possible A's names. My point was that there's nothing quite as ridiculous as a team one day deciding to change its name to incorporate that of its cross town/hated rival so it can suck off some of the revenue (especially when the name starts with "The The Angels Angels").
No matter what crazy name Wolff/Fremont decides on, your team will always have that distinction.
<< I was merely reminding your no talent ass that Los Angeles is actually a city.]>
True, but so is San Francisco.
<<As far as sponging off of a city. Nice call on picking Fremont.>>
No, that's where the team would actually be located physically. In my hypo, San Francisco would be the city sponged off of -- you see, like LA for the Angels.
<<You referencing a large fan base is humorous as well. The miniscule attendance Fremont takes in is laughable.>>
Once again, this is referencing the city that the team(s) are not actually located in. In my hypo, San Francisco would be the city with the large fan-base -- you see, like LA for the Angels.
<<Maybe you should start tarping your comments so they seem full of thought?>>
That was sort of funny, but for some reason, I doubt that this was an original thought.
San Francisco?
Have you seen the number of seats they are putting in the stadium? It is small. It will be one of the smallest parks in MLB. If SF were such a big factor in the spendid mew park they are constructing don't you think they would have made it with a larger seating capacity? Or do you think they were scared they would have to bring the tarp with them?
you really don't READ this stuff do you?
But the Mercury News reported that Wolff went so far as to propose "Fremont A's" and "Silicon Valley A's" to the council as names for the relocated club.
so I would feel comfortable saying it's a little more than mere speculation on this blog.
thanks ladybug

New A's Park
Yeah, right. Currently, one can go to an A's game via mass transportation from as far as Sacramento--over 90 miles and an hour and a half drive--train and BART. But there is no mass transportation via BART or other rail/bus service to Fremont. BART doesn't even go that far south.
Maybe a horse and buggy will await funs where BART ends.
The brilliant Shaquille O'Neal once declared...
There is a stop in Fremont. I've been there one day when I was temporarily (1 day) homeless and used the BART to catch some zzzz's for a full day... stopped in Fremont SEVERAL TIMES, as a matter of fact.
