That is eerily similar to the MLB productions
version that was originally released in 2002.

Some others said it even has the hoaky Tom Petty song "Dreamville" (or something to that effect) on it, too, just like the MLB version.

The World Series DVD people were looking for is a set of ones that include the ENTIRE GAMES.

There is such a thing?
Fire Mickey Hatcher. An entire generation of Angels offense depends upon it.

Here it is again...
Yetijuice's post:
Pontel
The good news is you can get 2002 World Series games on DVD.  The bad news is you cannot get them at a North American address.  You trust anybody on this planet that does not live on this island?

You can get any and all World Series games played from 1991 to 2006 from Pontel.  All prices (air mail postage included) are for Asia.  The cost is $15.90 per game or $57.71 per series.  Clearly this is a better deal for a 7 game series than a 4 game series.

How to find Pontel:

go to Google
type in "Pontel" and click I'm Feeling Lucky
point arrow at MLB and click DVD shop
click Baseball DVDs available
click World Series games
click 2002

Regular season games are also $15.90 each or $57.71 for each set of 4 games.  A full season single DVD subscription package for 27 weeks/games  (27 DVDs) is US $359.00.  A full season double DVD subscription package for 27 weeks/games (54 DVDs) is US $399.00.  Clearly you should go with the double (two games per week) package.  You can choose your favorite team or you can pick the game of the week.  Both the single and double season packages include the 2007 All-Star game.  If you order before April 10th, 2007 your favorite team's opener will be added to your package for free.
Selected regular season games are available from the 2004, 2005, and 2006 seasons.  Most weeks there are 2 games available for each team.  For example the 6/2/2004 Boston @ LA Angels game in which Vladimir Guerrero had 9 rbis IS available.  All 2004, 2005, and 2006 LDS and LCS games are also available.

Selected great games from the past are also available.  Both 1986 ALCS games 4 and 5 (Boston @ California) are available.  So to is the September 1995 Cal Ripken 2,131st consecutive game California @ Baltimore game.  That is a gem of a broadcast in that there are absolutely NO commercials.  Between innings feature baseball celebrity interviews instead.

I purchased baseball and college football game VHS PAL videotapes from Pontel from 1990 to 2001 when I lived in Nepal.  I highly recommend Pontel.  Disclosure:  I have absolutely no financial interest in Pontel.  I am a fan only.  No need to tell them that Stats sent you.  I am not Lex Brodie (Honolulu's Cal Worthington).  Thank you very much.

College football, college basketball, NFL, and NBA games are also available from Pontel.  Got any questions?  Check out Pontel's FAQ.  You can be there less than a minute from now.

All of this, of course

Yeah, so Pontel should...
give us the tapes for FREE.  :)

I have games 6 and 7 on DVD (bought from someone else (USA-based), not Pontel) and I LOVE watching them.  It is most choice to have these things at your disposal.

I just wanted to get games 1 - 5 also, that's why I listened to the wise and great "yetijuice" who I quote in that crack-filled post above.

It is not against the law to record games for your own personal viewing, but when your superstitious beliefs lead you to believe you might jinx your team if you record, well then, I didn't make recordings...

So, I found some scoundrels who could sell 6 & 7 to me.  And dang, do I love the copies I have !!!!!!! WOO HOO!  can you wear out a DVD?  I have run the Spiezio HR inning over and over at least 1000 times .... in the LAST WEEK!

I can't think of any reason...
...to ever want to watch game 5 again. Once was more than enough.

Game 4 made me sick.
Angels blew a 3-0 game in that game.  Could have gone up 3 games to 1 in the Series.  The ALDS against the Yankees was exciting, and the ALCS was simply AMAZING (given the Angels past history in the ALCS), but the World Series (for me) became nerve wracking from Game 4 on.  The F-bombs were flying.  LOL

To be a fan...
you should follow all the games and one of my purchases is going to be the Game 5 Boston 1986 meltdown.  How can you not watch this stuff?  It is all a part of our history, dark or not.  It has helped to make us the fans we are now.

express, written consent of Major League Baseball
Yes, Pontel has the consent of MLB.  Their deal with MLB prohibits Pontel from shipping DVDs to North, Central and South America.  There is nothing preventing you in the USA from purchasing DVDs from Pontel and having them shipped to Africa, Asia, Australia, or Europe.  Antartica does not have regular mail delivery, but Pontel DVDs probably have gone there via Chile or New Zealand.  What is it with Europe?  They are the only continent that does not begin with the letter A.  Perhaps Europe really is part of Asia.

Since the late 80's Pontel has moved around Europe.  While living in Nepal I received Pontel videotapes from London, Amsterdam, Germany and Switzerland.  I figure that Pontel moved to wherever taxes and air shipping were lowest.  Perhaps Pontel's founder has a Swiss bank account?  He probably also likes skiing, raclet, alpenhorns, lederhosen, and yodeling.

Speaking of A's, I am now in Arizona.  With the Angels and Dodgers both on the road I went on a road trip.  Wouldn't you drive 377 miles to see Barry Bonds get hit by a pitch?  The Snakes Doug Davis hit Bondso with a 68 mph curveball in the right shoulder blade.  Too bad it wasn't his fastest pitch of the night (89 mph).  At least it missed Barry's body armour.

Last night was the first game I had seen at the BOB (now known as Chase Field).  My first impression is that it ranks below all of the Southern California parks (Angels, Dodgers, and Padres).  However, the difference weather-wise between the Friday 20 April Seattle @ LA Angels game and last nights Giants @ Snakes game was dramatic.  It drizzled lightly at that Mariners-Angels game (my nomination for coldest game of the year at the Big A).  At game time it was 92 degrees outside and 76 degrees inside at Chase Field.  Earlier in the afternoon it reached 98 degrees F.  We sat in the upper deck on the third base side of home plate.  We were warned not to sit in the sunny box seats for a day game.  April is definitely the month to go to Diamondbacks home games.

I am a baseball junkie and baseballaholic.  Wasn't it Vladimir Illych Lenin who said baseball is the opiate of the masses?  The crack of the bat is the only crack I know about.  Proletariat ought to get in touch with the New York Mets bat boy bad boy that distributed drugs in the clubhouse if he wants crack.  Our walk from the parking lot we used last night west of Chase Field took us past the Arizona Police Museum.  Perhaps one might find a crack pipe that had been seized as evidence in there?

The new version
doesn't even have the bonus features of the original. I bought it hoping it might be anamorphic widescreen or cleaned up or something but no luck. Nice case though.

Should have asked
Tim Mead about the possibility of releasing a 2002 DVD set like the ones they've released for the Cardinals last year and the White Sox the year before.

Thanks for the Pontel tip
But it says the DVDs are in the PAL format, not NTSC. That seems to be a bit of a problem.

Not if you watch on your computer...
plus, some other HH member said he could convert those to DVD NTSC somehow.  Not sure how, but he had a "secret method..."

Just pointing out
that you can't just pop these DVDs in the standalone DVD player hooked up to the home entertainment system in the living room. Not a huge consideration in these days of laptop computers and digital TVs, I guess, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
