"Pitch Selection" by GA

Look at it this way, though. I'm guessing GA's problems stem directly from two related issues:

1.) He's old.
2.) He can't see anymore.

Frankly, you're not gonna hit anything you can't see. GA was a great hitter for years, so he obviously knew a little about pitch selection, but I'm guessing his eyes aren't doing him any favors anymore. His advice is probably solid, but even he can't act on it anymore.

Is there anyone on that team who knows a damn thing about pitch selection?  I have often wondered why opponents throw them strikes?  Just throw it close and they will swing.  I will give OCab some credit...at least he generally watches the ball all the way into the catcher's mitt.  

Wood:  So how do you decide when to swing?

GA:  I swing whenever I get a fastball, unless I have two strikes.

Wood:  So what do you do when you have two strikes?

GA:  Swing at anything.

Wood:  What if it's a ball in the dirt?

GA:  I still swing.

Wood: Don't you think there's a better approach?

GA:  Not that I know of.  Maybe you should talk to Mickey Hatcher.
