Question about MLB.tv...

I'm considering purchasing a couple of months (and possibly the whole season), since I'll have to teach summer school and live out of state.

Has anybody here used this package before? Who calls the games? Is it just local feeds, or their own cameras? Please, if you've ever had any experience puchasing games online, tell me about it.

Essentially it is just TV broadcasts streamed over the internet. The tendency is for the stream to usually be the home broadcast. I quite like it. I would advise purchasing the premium package. I don't remember how much more it is but it is probably worth it. Mosaic is still pretty buggy but the 700K feed is definitely worth the extra money (vs 300K with the basic package). I can put it full screen on my 17" monitor and it is pretty acceptable.

Watch out how you pay for it

If you pay for the package with a card thats billing address is in a blackout area.

You will not enjoy to many Angels games.

Thats the understanding I get.

Not quite...

It actually picks up your location from your IP address. If it has a problem with that it will revert to asking for your credit card information to confirm location.

Really!?

I don't doubt you guys are right but I thought they marketed it for people to watch their team when they're away from home (i.e business travelers etc.). Last year I had a bunch of problems with blackouts and I was told it was because my IP address was being misread but maybe it changed this year (I haven't had any problems).

When I'm at school in Napa and we play Oakland,

I don't get the game on mlb.tv, because it's on FSN BA. When I'm home in Portland, and we're playing Seattle, I don't get the game on mlb.tv, because it's on FSN NW. When we play any other team I get the game. No matter where I am.

This

is the reason the internet was invented. Like an above poster mentioned, pony up the extra bucks for premium. The 700k is watchable on fullscreen, and the fact that you can watch condensed games, highlights, and full archives at any time throughout the season makes it completely worth it.

agreed, I love the premium package

And my digital cable subscriber clutched up and paid it for me because they didn't want to lose me to Direct TV. Now that they have reversed the decision, I'm buying it on TV too just because of the class move.
