Derek Zumsteg Cheats to Create a Promotional Opportunity

Piazza's homerun ball landed three rows in front of me. Didn't have time to examine it before a noble Angel fan thew it back onto the field. As it was Mike Piazza's first ever American League homerun it was only worth about, oh, $7,500, rosin and all...

This should kill it
On the other hand
About half the people here and arguing against Zumsteg on his blog said it was rosin, and the other half must be blind, since they claimed there was nothing there at all.
Zumsteg was right about everything he said, except for saying he did not think it was rosin, but still called it a close question whether it was rosin or something more damning. Also, though a technicality, he is right that rosin is not allowed on the hat.
So he may have been a little to direct in his accusation in the main article, while being more concillatory in the comments, but he was basically right about everything.
Also, there is the chance it wasn't rosin. Of course K-Rod is going to say it is something legal or at least accepted - but we will never know for sure what was under that cap. We do know there was something, though.

Wrong wrong wrong
- he showed the hat to a reporer, on the spot, without hesitation, and showed him the 'smudge'.
- he didn't say he "thought" he saw extra movement on the pitches, he said there IS extra movement on the pitches where he went to the hat.
- whenever someone bothered pointing out that he wasn't going to his hat to "access the smudge", but that the smudge was there because that's where his hand went on the hat every time he touched it, he ignored them.
- the baseball rule says that you may not dust any part of your uniform, or the ball with the rosin. k-rod is not "dusting" his uniform. the rosin is, in the worst case scenario, being transfered because when you touch something dirty, your hand is gonna get dirty. the rules also say you can't wipe your hands on your uniform between games, or blow on them unless it is cold. so how exactly was he supposed to insure that every last piece of rosin dust was off his hand before the pitch?

Wow
Strange movement? Maybe you should watch K Rod pitch, he has some of the nastiest stuff in the bigs and his slider is to be blunt, the nastiest pitch in baseball.
I am imagining neither Derek Zoolander nor you have ever seen/touched rosin.
K-Rod cheats,
Isn't it weird how the more people call it a non-story, the more of a story it becomes?
You forgot

Yes
MLB Clears K-Rod
Link is to the LA Times article. Great quote:
"'Bob Watson called and said there's nothing to it, nothing to investigate,' General Manager Bill Stoneman said, referring to the executive who handles discipline for MLB. 'That was it. It was a short conversation.'"
Just in case there was lingering doubt on this.

Derek Zoolander still a bitch.
clearly a promotional opportunity
"I brought this up as something I found interesting in connection with my work on the book."
There you have it. Nice one, asshole. Way to grab some attention by slinging mud at a guy who's just doing his job. Way to eschew journalistic integrity by titling your article the very misleading "Francisco Rodriguez doctoring the baseball." There's a reason why you had to turn off the Comments on all your K-Rod entries -- because too many people disagree with you. Now it seems like MLB disagrees with you, too.
I hope your 15 minutes was worth it -- I'm sure you'll laugh all the way to the bank, knowing that you disparaged someone's integrity just so that you could benefit financially. Sleep well.
He is a contributer on USS Mariner also
more of his journalistic integrity
But that's not how Derek Zumsteg reports it. True to his penchant for misleading headlines, his entry is titled "Angels claim Francisco Rodriguez investigation dropped".
Hey Derek, that "claim" is as accurate as your original accusations were off-base.

Zumsteg: Angels hater
It is unfortunate that a no-talent hack with no objectivity and absolutely no ethics like Zumsteg is able to freely defame someone's reputation.
