Thoughts From Ken Rosenthal...

The entire article is here.  But I'll quote just the Angels tidbit:
"The Rays need major-league-ready pitching as well as a shortstop, and they would consider other possibilities as well. Here's a thought: Crawford to the Angels for Class AAA left-hander Joe Saunders, infielder Erick Aybar and a lower-level Grade A prospect (no, not Class AA righty Nick Adenhart).  Yes, it would be a lot. But man, it's Carl Crawford.

I don't know what the rest of you guys think, but I'd make that trade in a second.  Maybe you could substitute Santana and drop the third prospect needed.  I realize what is really needed is a corner infielder (Helton's looking good right now) but it least it would be a significant improvement from the other OF's to choose from.  The question is would they have the stones to put GA on the bench.  Or even better release/trade him.  They got rid of Appier when they were still on the hook for a ton of money right? I also forgot to mention that Crawford is on a very reasonable contract for the next few years (with options).

They won't trade Saunders or Moseley
because Colon won't be back next year and Escobar is too much of an injury risk.  Despite this years struggles offensively, I believe most of our hitters will only get better.

Agreed,
Sanders and Mosely are the future of our rotation and with Bart not getting re-signed (he might get a 1 year or 1 + 1 option from Arte) we will need Joe and Dustin to fill in if someone goes down with an injury.

That being said GA at 60% is still better than Finley and She Hillenfarce.  While Crawford would be a great addition, I think it would be tough with a four man DH/OF rotation of GA, CC, MGJ, and Vlad.  What do you do when Juan comes back?  And Reggie?

Willits has been nails, and I love the way he plays.  Kinda like a guy now playing CF for the White Sox when he first came up.  Too bad Willits can't play 3B.

It is way overdue Arte. #5 needs to be retired by the Angels.

Sorry
Mosely isn't the future of the rotation.  Mosely is most likely Kevin Gregg, making spot starts and working out of the bullpen.  Saunders will hold a spot for Adenhart unless there is movement with a starter other than Colon (a trade involving Santana?).  Mosely has been great but I see people overvaluing the Angels young players much like Mr. Naps.

As far as a deal goes I would rather try and acquire Brad Hawpe from the Rockies rather than pay the price TB will want for CC.

Actually
I see Moseley as being this year's flavor of Ben Weber, a sinkerball specialist who pitches to contact, doesn't strike out a lot of guys, and lives on the hairy edge of success; once his fastball goes, he's toast, because hitters can sit on 85 MPH "heat".
Ervin Santana To AAA!

Do the trade
If we can get Crawford, go for it.  I'd rather trade Santana than Saunders.  Santana has more upside, but Saunders is more consistent, has less service time, and its nice to have a decent lefty on the team.

As far as GA goes, here are the options if we get another OF:

  1. DH him fulltime until Rivera comes back, release Hillenbrand.
  2. Bench him, make him the highest paid reserve outfielder in the game.  We also release Hillenbrand.
  3. Release him and eat the contract.  We ate a similar amount when Appier is done.  Once agin, we still release Hillenbrand.
Trade is not an option.  Even if there was a team willing to take his contract, which there isn't, Anderson is a 10/5 man and can refuse any trade.

Did I mention we need to release Hillenbrand?

If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.

Don't know where else to put it
But in the poll, favorite Washington, I'd like to select none of the above and write in a vote for Claudell.

My first thought was U.L.
the KC shortstop with the all-the-time toothpick. Then, Denzel and Freddie 'Boom-Boom'.

i'd do that in a heartbeat.
crawford is legit, and only getting better.

we don't need 7 starters and 6 middle infielders.  let's get rid of the surplus.

I'd do it
Saunders and Moseley ARE NOT the future of our rotation. Our future relies on Ervin becoming consistent, Weaver and Nick Adenhart. We can still keep one of Saunders or Moseley, trade a surplus INF and get a young, good LF.
