More A-Rod Rumors
Buried in an article about Joe Torre regaining respect for A-Rod is this juicy little tidbit:
And everyone presumes that Arte Moreno will offer A-Rod partnership as an owner to get him to come west to play for the Angels.
That's all the article says about it. It's obviously pure speculation, but would it work? Has there ever been a player in their prime that a franchise wanted so badly that they were willing to offer them part ownership of the team in order to play with them?

I think it was a figure of speech

Huh
It is far-fetched enough for it though. Even though I've been hungry enough that I could have eaten a horse before. Plus, I hear they're tasty.
Not Legally Possible
A player cannot be an owner, because he'd be on both sides of the collective bargaining agreement.
Same reason Magic Johnson had to sell his share of the Lakers when he came back as a player briefly in 1996 or thereabouts.
That makes sense
Looks like my sarcasm detector is just broken today. Or maybe it's my metaphor detector. I wonder how much it would cost to get a new one...
Not entirely correct

NHL is Weird
Fact of the matter is that it is prohibited in both MLB and the NBA.

Research
First, the NHLPA had to agree to allow Lemieux to hold both roles.
Second, he had to give up his voting rights as an owner.
He was paid the league-average salary, and paid union dues; however, he was not an actual member of the union (and therefore couldn't vote on union issues, either).
