Figgins is expandable

It's about time the Angels trade Figgins away. They already have Willits who is not going anywhere, leading off. They have GMJ in the order too, they have enough speed in the lineup. They can bring Wood up and they can get some needed pop in the lineup. Figgins has just over stayed his welcome and needs to move on. I hope nothing but the best for him but it seems he needs a new change of scenery. The team is playing real well right now minus Figgins so why not bring up Wood and let him play 3rd. With the way they are finally hitting it might be good for Wood to be in the line up right now. Don't get me wrong I love Figgy, He did some great things for the Angels. But sometimes you just need to move on.

EXPANDABLE?? you mean EXPENDABLE?
Don't think a whole lot would fit on that 5'whatever frame. Colon on the other hand........
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

An inflatable Figgins doll
Just too creepy for words.  Man, that's some kind of fetish!

Yeah he's expendable...
...but how much value does he have right now?  Not nearly as much as he did this time last year.

Might get a sandwich...
...to feed to Colon?

At this point I'd take it, just to get him outta here.  Izturis is better on the field, and gives better AB until Wood is ready come August or September.

I'd trade Figgins
for the sandwich...

Stoneman should have traded him last year for sure - my only hope is that he has enough value to make a package deal work for a bat.

I will punch anyone who thinks Figgins is good...

To Stoneman's defense
Figgy last year looked really unlucky, not just "bad."  Also, the trade rumors were unreasonable, and the Tejada trade, as mentioned previously, was axed not by Stoneman, but a certain Baltimore-GM-to-remain-nameless.

This year, it's too late to trade him and he looks awful.  I definitely have more confidence in Izturis in the interim, though I think let's give Figgy a little while longer to get healthy in AAA and then give him one more shot.

my bet's on Murph
he's the most "expendable" guy we got.

Hmm
I dunno.  You're right, it COULD be him too.

I think it's a toss-up.  Quin doubles as a corner infielder as well as outfield, but Aybar only plays the middle infield (for now).

I predict
a DL for Figgins when Howie comes back.  His bad throw to Kotchman last night might indicate some pain still in his fingers.  At least that is what the story will be.

Problem
The problem is that we have 3 other cheaper guys doing what Figgins does... Wilits, Aybar and Izturis are all very similar players to Figgins.  We really don't need 4 utility type speed guys in the lineup.

The difference is
All those guys can bunt and play much better defense. Figgins should have been traded when his value was inflated. Now his value is below what he is truly worth, but he's dragging down the lineup.

Also
They don't try to hit home runs.  Figgins could improve if he just stoppped trying to hit the ball in the air.

On of the best points in the argument
and I know it was mentioned in a prior diary a while back.  But there is no reason to have that many slap hitting super utes on the roster.

One can argue that Figgins is a better base stealer - but you can't steal if you don't get on.  I have much more faith in Izzy than Figgins - and when Howie gets back - theres not enough room in the inield for all.  Scox will probably send Aybar down but hopefully plays Izzy much more often then Figgins...

I will punch anyone who thinks Figgins is good...
