Wood for Atkins?

According to Foxsports' Ken Rosenthal, the Angels are interested in the Rockies' Garret Atkins. Rosenthal suggests Wood for Atkins, which strikes me as an odd (and bad) idea. (Also on my blog)
What do you think?

Phil Heyman of SI.com
suggested Kotchman, Aybar, and Mathis for Atkins, Todd Helton, and some degree of financial comp from the Rockies to enable the Angels to better absorb Helton's bloated contract.

GREATER THAN
Kotchman > Helton
Atkins > Wood

Helton > Aybar/Mathis -maybe throw in Katrina Hillenbrand to balance the salary, yeah?

No way any of this happens.

John Heyman
but he did call Mathis Mike Mathis which was funny.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U.

No way
The Rockies seem pretty set at catcher with Ianetta, and Kaz Matsui and Tulowitzki as a double play cmombo, so no way does Kotch plus 2 bench players (although one is useful in a few positions) get this kind of deal done

That sounds like a bad idea
for the Rockies, doesn't it?
Such a deal would make us instant World Series favorite, I guess.

We already were....Over the Dodgers
I think they would just mail us the World Series Trophy and call it a season.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pujols isn't hitting either
Would you take him?

Pujols' version of not hitting
is an .827OPS and on pace for 28 homers.  Atkins' is a .677OPS and a 12 homer pace.

Plus, you know...the 6 year track record.  I'm not entirely sold on Atkins, especially in that park.  I'll take Holliday, though.  Too bad, he's not available.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on May 21, 2007 5:39 PM PDT up reply actions

True enough
Atkins is looking like a bit of a 1 year wonder and it's not like he even hit 30 homers last year.

As for the park effect, Coors is nothing like it used to be. Atkins, Helton, and Holliday all have similar and in some cases better stats on the road than at Coors.

In the past guys like Walker and Bichette would hit .440 at home and .280 on the road. Those days appear to be over. Amazing what a humidor can do.

I thought
they banned the humidor this year, no?

Atkins
Roads splits are 20 OPS points less than his home splits but they are driven by a better OBP.  He is not hitting very well on the road at all this year.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U.

I don't know the name
but the reason that Atkins (who was previously untouchable) is available is because suppossedly they have another 3B in their minors near MLB ready.  Don't remember where I read that though
I will punch anyone who thinks Figgins is good...
