Send down Santana, bring back Saunders

Discuss.

This is absolutely ridiculous, there is no excuse for his performance and I have a really hard time believing that Saunders could not bring us more wins with the way Santana has been pitching.  What does everybody else think?  Will it actually happen?

300 yet? 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300 300

Yeah
It was 1-0 when I last checked.  I didn't have much in the way of expectations for this game, a road day game after all, but I check back in 2 hours later and its 10-0.  Pathetic.

We can't afford an automatic loss in the rotation, and thats what Ervin is right now on the road.  His trade value is probably pretty low right now.  Maybe some games in AAA will help him.

Or we work out some kind of platoon, Bootcheck or Mosely starts on the road with Ervin in mopup relief, and Ervind gets to start at home.

If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.

What is now worse is
that Santana's trade value has evaporated...

by Rev Halofan on May 24, 2007 12:11 PM PDT reply actions

AAA
I think the only way to ever recover his value is to send him to AAA til he (hopefully) figures his shit out.  Then if we can bring him back up to fill in for an injury at some point we can at least hope he's better.

Rotate him
with either Moseley or Bootcheck out of the pen.

oh yeah!
Cut Oliver, move Santana to long relief.  Sauders is new #5.

If it's a night game in the OC, then stick Black Magic in there and give all the starters an extra day off.

i like that
that could work, but you know it will never happen.  everything is going to stay the way it is, we all know this...
I still want to DFA Hillenbrand

why the hell?
why would you roll out the B-team offense, when you have your worst starter starting in the conditions he performs worst in (on the road, during the day, on a day ending with the letter "y", etc.)?

and if you're giving howie the day off, why bring him in in a blowout?

i'm not following scioscia's logic here.

We have a good lead in the division
a loss doesn't hurt so much now.  Plus Santana has to work on his road problems and so guys just need days off.

ONE WORD:
YUP

there's nothing to discuss. Santana needs to go. Bring on the Crimson Chin

The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

Done
How long are we going to let this gut work it out. Does he have to go 0-8 on the road before we pull the plug. If we were the Roayals I could agree with letting him work it out but we are competing for a division and cannot keep allowing Ervin to have one bad road start after another. And lets be honest I watched his last start at home and he was more lucky then good. He only gave up one run but a key hit by the other side and the flood gates could have opened up. Even in the games he pitches well there are points in the game where he struggles and he barely gets out of it. This guy needs to go back to AAA and get tough and learn how to use his head. He looks like a space cadet out there

hey amb07
we're in first place in late may, calm down.

by SactoFan on May 24, 2007 3:39 PM PDT up reply actions

I say...
keep santana.

He WILL figure this shit out. He's got dominating stuff with a dash of flare, but for some GODDAMNED reason he just can't pull it together on the road.

Maybe his ass needs to go to bed earlier and quit drinkin the night before he starts.

by shiftyeyedgoat on May 24, 2007 1:29 PM PDT reply actions

We all need to follow that
advice.

But yeah, he will put together a solid second half. He has a higher ceiling than Saunders.

by Pwn on May 24, 2007 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

I understand the frustration
But his trade value hasn't 'evaporated.' The guy is still going to be a valuable pitcher. Angels stadium isn't such a picher's park that his ERA should be double on the road.

That being said, a one-month trial swap with Santana and Saunders is in order. If Santana can string together 6 or 7 starts in a row in AAA, then we can explore the option of trading him or another one of our starters.

The Angels real need is
to score more runs than the other team.
since 1961

by Chompo on May 24, 2007 2:37 PM PDT reply actions

We scored zero runs today...
Santana could've had a gem of a game and only given up 1 run and we still would've loss.

Top of the 1st, bases loaded, zero outs, aaaaaand... we don't score.

I should be working right now...

I think Gubizca threw more pitches...
in an Angels uni than Buddy ever did! ;)

I didn't know that his real name is Harry Ralston Black!

So what
He is one of the best pitching coaches in the game.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U.

Thanks, like I didn't know that...
but, he can't throw a pitch for us... that was the joke I was making...

BTW, is it because Bud is gone that Santana has gone to hell?
