Time to put the division away

Look, we are completely rolling right now.  Our division lead has been growing, slowly, but I think the Angels have a real opportunity this month to put a lot of ground between themselves and Seattle/Oakland.  Just look at the Angels' schedule for the rest of June:

@ STL (3)
@ CIN (3)
@ LAD (3)
vs HOU (3)
vs PIT (3)
vs KC (3)

Every one of those teams except the Dodgers is at LEAST 5 games under .500.  And, except for the Royals, they are all national league teams.  Here's to hoping the boys keep it going and cap off a strong month.

As the Kittycats found out last October
they play the games for a reason.

Ervin Santana will make two road appearances during that series, one at Dodger Stadium, so we know the Angels will have at least two losses in that span.

Ervin Santana To AAA! (But only for road games.)

Not if we can score
16 runs again in one of those starts!

Good point
It should be interesting to see exactly what the Dodgers' rotation looks like at that time.  For sure, it will contain Brad Penny and Derek Lowe. Jason Schmidt is a probable, though there are questions about his ability to stick around thanks to his recent DL time.  Brett Tomko and Mark Hendrickson are right out, which means probably Tsao and/or Billingsley and/or Hong-Chih Kuo.  It's not an easy thing to forecast, since Grady Little is torquing the rotation quite a bit these days.

Schmidt at least struck out GA in the
rehab starts.  Like that is a tough thing to do...

Regarding the two losses,
your logic is understood.  But like you said, "they play the games for a reason."

magic number
we might even have a magic number after the kc series. if santana can have a good road start then you know the apocolypes is coming, repent all you sinners! expect if you're a choakland fan, you're already in H. E.  double hockey sticks.

by thejd on Jun 6, 2007 10:34 AM PDT reply actions

I think our Magic # right now is exactly 100.
I'm not 100% sure on that.
I should be working right now...

Yes, 100 exactly.

by thrill000 on Jun 6, 2007 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions

So if we go 138 and 24 we're guaranteed the
division? WTF do you have to do to win the AL West!

by melvintoast on Jun 6, 2007 11:43 PM PDT up reply actions

LOL!
Well that's if The A's or Seattle don't lose either. :)

We're winning right now...
Unfortunately, it seems the A's and Mariners have picked it up the past week.  We need them to start losing in that span.

A's
@SF (3)
@HOU (3)
STL (3)
CIN (3)
@NYM (3)
@CLE (4)

Seattle
@SD (3)
@CLE (1)
@CHC (3)
@HOU (3)
PIT (3)
CIN (3)
BOS (3)

Beat me to it...
Our lead can't grow unless the A's or Mariners are losing.  We've one 5 in a row and increased our lead a total of one game.  Need to hope those guys cool down to add some separation...
I will punch anyone who thinks Figgins is good...

i'm not counting chickens
by the end of june, the season will be less than half over. tons of stuff can happen in the second half, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

your memory is almost as good as mine.

this is baseball
if the angels go on a 10-game losing streak next week, i certainly won't be the one declaring the season over, either.

by yeswecan on Jun 6, 2007 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions

Me, either.
But some on this site might.

By no means am I counting chickens
Well, I guess the thread title could make it seem like it.  But I am just talking about building a sizable lead here going into the All Star break.

P237..
..i think you need to update your sig.. cause last time i checked, kotchman is 'good' and napoli certainly isn't terrible..

surfs up, deeyyyuuudddde
This would be a catastrophe if we don't capitalize on this opportunity to relegate the opposition into submission.

Don't underestimate the NL
I don't like the upcoming inter-league games simply because of the uncertainty.  Although the NL teams records may be weak, it is difficult to assess how the Angels' will stack up against the likes of STL, CIN, HOU, and PIT.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

The AL west Champion will be chosen from within
The next AL West champ will be the one that dominates within this division.

We as a division dominate the rest of the league.

Three teams over .500 and .500 road records.

Texas is the only team struggling, and even they have 10 wins Vs. the east.

by eyespy on Jun 7, 2007 11:59 AM PDT reply actions

We dominate the East...
except for the BoSox.  If never had to play them again... insert pipe dream here

That's what I don't like about the Sox jumping out to such a big lead.  I would much rather face the Yankees than the Sox in the playoffs.

I should be working right now...

Dude. If the A's can take em so can we
If you wanna win the WS you gotta be the best.

by melvintoast on Jun 7, 2007 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions

Let's put this division away this month!
We aren't going to face ONE tough team this month and the A's and Marinerds definitely have their work cut out vs. some teams this month. With a 5.5 game advantage right now that was built coming out of a tough month facing tough opponents, what's stopping us from putting up a double digit lead in the AL West facing these weak teams?....I SAY SMASH 'EM!!! LET'S TAKE THESE NEXT TEAMS' LUNCH MONEY!!

L.A. ANGELS, THE 2007 SCHOOL YARD BULLIES!!!!

LET'S SMASH!!!!!!!!!

Final score: Angels 4 Giants 2 Angels 2002 World Series Champions!!!
