All-Star Snubs

No O.C., no HGH, (although I wasn't holding my breath on that one).  As a matter of fact, for the team with the best record in baseball, the highest avg. of any team in baseball, 4th in runs scored etc, we have one position player on the team. O.C. did get some love from Tony Gwynn on the selection show, but it's little consolation for someone who had his roster spot taken by Michael Young, (Rangers only selection).

True that.
Get Voting Angels fans. We're going to have to out-vote Boston here.

Uh oh
Okajima has Japan and Halladay has Canada.  I hope Kelvim's friends in Venezuela have the internet.

Dude, I just voted for Kelvim like 80 times
I don't think there's a limit on these...

write a script anyone?

The all star game is for losers.
The true all-stars will be playing in the post season. Who cares about Michael Young... He's not going to be playing in October.

Scareduck can be
pesimistic at times but I agree that the All-Star game is all-BS.
Stay on the damn bag!!

by higdog on Jul 1, 2007 4:34 PM PDT up reply actions

That hurts. Let me elaborate.
Gil Meche is all-star. He's 5 and 6. Previous to this year he's he pitched 1 year where his era was under 4.

Why is he on the all-start team? Because KC gets an automatic entry even though there are no all-stars on that team.

Derek Jeter and A-Rod make up half the infield. The team they play for is 37 and 41. If they're all-stars why don't they have a winning record?

If K-Rod pitches to Bonds in the all-star game, I won't care because it's not game 6 of the WS. The all-star game doesn't count for anything, except now the game that doesn't count determines home field.

The all-star game is just a popularity contest and a venue where teams that won't be playing in October can pat themselves on the back

GA won the HR derby in 2003. About all Angels fans got out of that was a series of injuries.

Just a Popularity Contest
That is why peopple like it and obsess with who should get picked - because it IS a popularity contest - the thing you accuse it of being... well, dude, THE ALL STAR GAME IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO BE JUST THAT.

You have proven its worth. Bud Selig thanks you.

I'm almost surprised...
that some of the Patriots didn't get voted in.

Hahahahha

cabrera got robbed
the all star game is dumb, but its just the national recognition that he deserves the way hes playing this year. i was really upset about that. michael young sucks this year.

i voted for kelvim about 20 times though

Manny gets named
will decline again.  Why do we need to go through this excercise every year?
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

Which NL player
should we vote for along with Kelvim? I'm too lazy to look up the stats when it's not my team or fantasy-related.

by jerryhattrick on Jul 1, 2007 5:07 PM PDT reply actions

I'm voting Brandon Webb
But only because he's on my fantasy team.

I went with big Z
mostly because he's had a great 6-7 weeks.

Also, Venezuelan combo of final vote nominees.

by shiftyeyedgoat on Jul 1, 2007 5:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Escobar
and Young have received my near 50 votes so far...
What? Figgins is playing better? Well, I still don't like him.

On hall of fame plaques
throughout cooperstown, players are accredited with their numerous all-star appearances.  when it's being used as criteria by sportswriters for inductees, it needs to not be in the fucking hands of a bunch of bostonians whining jackass bullshitters.

I was thinking about this the other day
It's called the hall of fame. Not the hall of panther or the hall of awesome or the hall of the best or the hall of nastiness or the hall of excellence.

It's the hall of FAME. I don't know what the mission statement says but the name suggests that it's about the most FAMOUS baseball figures. In that respect I think we should put Bob Uecker and Jose Conseco in there.

If it were the hall of excellence, I'd establish guidelines to choose 3 players a year based on statistical rankings and 1 player based on pantherness which would have to be based on some committee vote. Satchel Paige wouldn't get in on statistics.

As it is, it's just a popularity contest.

I've been there and the non-hall exhibits are pretty cool. The pine-tar bat etc. I was there just a few days after Don Sutton won his 300th game and I was surprised to see his glove already on display.

You're reading too much
into the word "fame" here.  It's supposed to be for the best players.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Jul 1, 2007 9:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm opening a restaurant called the coffeehouse.
We won't serve coffee there. We'll server ice cream. People will ask... Why is it called the coffeehouse and I'll say... you're reading too much into it.

Hall of Panther would be a cooler name.

by melvintoast on Jul 1, 2007 9:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Not sure what your question is but
I just had another notion and that is that the Hall of Fame should be like the hollywood walk of fame. If someone pays for it you get in.

I'd donate to get Buck O'Neil in.

If you mean why am I complaining about the inaccuracy of the name? Basically because I think the process of selection is absurd so I kinda thought that the name fits the absurdity

If you mean why would I use a rigid guideline, it has to do which my experience in inefficiencies in group decision making.

Cabrera is the AL's biggest snub
Our anchor in the infield is having a career season and i'm sick of seeing Derek Jeter start at SS!!!

as much
as OC deserves to be there, so does derek jeter, you may hate the team he plays for but you cant take away from the man that he is a great player and is a well deserving all star

by Sorbo182 on Jul 2, 2007 1:29 AM PDT reply actions

i agree,
the rangers all star should have been sammy sosa, with manny ramirez left off the team and OC being the reserve SS with guillen

by Sorbo182 on Jul 2, 2007 11:51 AM PDT reply actions

nevermind
i just checked and sosa is batting .255, i withdraw my previous statement, the 14 HRs and 63 RBIs jumped out at me but .255 is not an allstar average

by Sorbo182 on Jul 2, 2007 11:59 AM PDT reply actions

Even KEITH LAW thinks OC got snubbed
That's the biggest indication I can think of that Orlando got robbed.
