AL Contenders Strength of Schedule

Saw this on ESPN.com's Buster Olney blog today.

He broke down the strength of schedule for the reminder of the year for the main 9 "contenders" in the American League.

I'm not sure if this means anything tangible or not, but... Of the nine teams he mentioned, the Angels have the toughest schedule, including a very difficult 22 game stretch.  Of course the Red Sox and Yankees have the easiest two schedules.

Los Angeles Angels
Home games: 39 of 74
Games against teams .500 or better: 43
Biggest hurdle: From July 20 to Aug. 12, the Angels will see nothing but contenders -- 22 straight games against Minnesota, Oakland, Detroit, Seattle and Boston.
Big Finish: Six road games, with three in Texas and three in Oakland.

The Angels face more over-.500 teams
than any other team in that list.

oh boig fucking deal
so our upcoming opponents have feasted on shitty teams, so what? We'll kick the shit out of their artificially inflated dominance and then someone will have to invent a new calculation of fear to keep us down.

Yea
And then we'll do it again in the post-season.

What about the Angels' inflated dominance?

Best first half in franchise history
UMM, if that ain't fucking dominance, your standards are just plain stupid.

RPI
According to ESPN's RPI, the Angels are third overall by that metric; I believe their SOS reflects current strength of schedule, in which case the Angels are 10th, middle-of-the-packish.

Fuzzy Math
Last time I checked 10th out thirty was good for being in the top third.  That seems to be a far cry from middle of the pack.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

BCS is for college football.
WTF cares. That's why we have play-offs. The strength of schedule in the post-season usually consists of teams with the best records.

We've played .500 against those teams
so far this year, going 13-13, although five of those losses came during The Weird Road Trip.

I guess that's why they play the games.

I'm not buying this toughest schedule BS
We only play 3 teams on the road with a record at .500 or better, SEA 2X, Boston and Minn.  We have the 3rd best home record in baseball where we will play most of the tough games.  Just rolling up the numbers from a macro stand point doesn't capture some of the important details.

plus
we play, from 7/12 74 games in 81 days.  The Mariners play 77 games in 81 days with 21 games over the next 21 days, 32 games in 34 days and then 24 straight to close out the season.  That pitching staff will be toast, especially the bullpen because they don't have guys in the rotation that go deep enough in games consistently enough.

Seattle
will go with a two man rotation the last month of the season,  Felix and the other guys.
