Angels @ Quasi-Crustacean Fruit Juice Logos - 4:10 PM
Bartolo COLON Ervin SANTANA Vs. James Shields

Star-divide

The Concrete Road Trip begins NOW...

Post Your OPD GUESSES here.

Random Song Lyrics
Her mouth was watery and wet.
But now something has changed
For she ain't the same,
She just acts like we never have met.

Can we count the number of starts that Bartolo Ervin has left as an Angel on one hand or still two?

Amerie
Vlad 6.10
Delmon 7.12

Anderson is doing OK but we need some power. Morales/Evans/Brown would do just fine but Scioscia is counting on Anderson to hit 25HRs and bat .289. I would love to have Delmon Young come to Anaheim, that kid is going to be a super star and hes already raking me up some fantisy points.

Go Halos, Prove me wrong!!!!!!

One hand
Bart's leash is a bit longer than Ervin's because of the vetruhn presence factor, and because of his 2005 Cy Young, but that's really all there is; if he isn't producing, he'll get pushed to the DL by or in August.  As for Ervin, I'll go on record saying he gets to the end of the month to show he can pull his head out of his ass on the road.

Informed decision
Days before a team visits Tropicana Field, Szasz, who believes a "team's best critics are its fans," will scan fan forums and message boards. He then settles on a reputable player and hark on him from his front-row seat for the series.

Navarro
Matt, if you're reading this: how do you read the trade that sent Navarro to the Devil Fishies now?  As with Hee Seop Choi, he was a player I was high on but the Dodgers dumped and has subsequently tanked with his new team.
Ervin Santana To AAA! (But only for road games.)

by scareduck on Jul 17, 2007 4:43 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Still a terrible trade
Just because the Dodgers got nothing in return except a #7 starter, and Dioner might yet turn into something. If he wasn't ready for prime time, they should have kept him AAA until he was, instead of putting him in an emergency trade for no good reason at all.

Unless he's just a terrible person. I guess the rumor is that he doesn't work hard? If they determined him to be cancerous or something, then you could justify it. But yeah, it's been amazing to see all these former Dodger phee-noms just eating dirt elsewhere. So far I've been wrong, and they've been right, but I'll always like the odds of a catcher who posts a .354 OBP at age 21.

Serious question
who thinks we should stick with Earvin over Saunders

by UCIHalo on Jul 17, 2007 5:56 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The only reason
to stick with him is that they might need Saunders to replace Colon.

So far, we have no reason to believe that Santana is ailing physically; the same cannot be said for the large intestine.

There's only one Joe Saunders.

I guess they could move Moseley back into the rotation, and bring up someone else (Marcus Gwyn? Jason Bulger?) to replace Moseley in the 'pen.

Although neither of those guys is on the 40-man, I suspect they could be added without any problem since Carrasco & Hillenbrand left two vacancies.

Darren Oliver also has experience as a starter...

They wouldn't
commit for three years; Cleveland was.

Byrd had told the Halos he'd re-up for the same deal ($1 yr, about $5 million).  Stoneman took him at his word; however, he couldn't ignore the multi-year guaranteed deals that were coming his way at that point, and the Angels didn't want to match, figuring he wouldn't remain in the team's rotation the entire time.

From the Register regarding Santana:
"Despite his success last season, some self-doubt might have put Santana on the road to his current crisis. Scioscia and Butcher said they feel the root of Santana's inconsistency is an attempt to expand his repertoire beyond the four-seam fastball, hard slider and occasional changeup that won him games last season. It was something Santana wasn't ready for -- nor was necessary -- at this point in his development, they said.

"I think by trying to create some stuff he got away from some other things that are important to him," Scioscia said. "One thing is a consistent breaking ball, the other is the great life he has on his fastball. Maybe he's been trying to mainpulate it too much to force some movement that isn't really where his game is right now."

I don't think the major leagues is where you try to work out new pitches. One would think you'd try that during spring training. You didn't see Frankie busting out that change in every appearance last season.

good, bad, and ugly?
The Good--The Joses, as in Jose (beep! beep!) Molina's solid bat and Jose Mota's anglicizing Cabrera and Vlad (thanks!); The Bad--weak grounders; The Ugly--Der'bing looking more and more like an immature head-case with his lack of stones, oversized unbuttoned jersey, and whatever the hell that crap is crawling on his left forearm. At least he's lost all that junk that used to whip around his neck. Time for some major growing time up in the minor leagues.

Finished
I hope this is truely the end of Ervin. Every team knows he is a head case and they are just teeing off on him. He needs to finish off the year in Triple A and make a fresh start next year. Its not happening and we can't afford to waste any more starts with the Mariners gaining confidence everyday. I pray to God Bartolo can turn it around or we may be forced to insert Mosely back into the rotation. Who would have ever thought both Ervin and Bartolo would be this bad.
