Making a Move

Anybody want to make predictions whether or not Stony makes a move for the "big bat?"

Rosenthal thinks Griffey would be a good fit:
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6994298

Well, maybe. He kinda sorta says he would be a good fit, then he says it would add to the logjam, so I'm not really sure what his point is. He also doesn't make any predictions.

Über-nerd Tim Kurkjian predicted on Baseball Tonight (Baseball Last Night??) that the Halos would stand pat, which I also believe will be the scenario given Stoner's track record and the fact that what we REALLY need (despite all the "expert" analysis and speculation) is the currently elusive power-hitting third-baseman (which we denizens of Halos Heaven all realize of course - except maybe for that dude who wants Adam Dunn on the team...)

So, what are your predictions?

I say the Angels will do nothing, and 52-33 tells me that's not necessarily a bad thing.

P.S. In the comments, please refrain from referring to Mark Teahen as a power hitter.

I say they try.
I am not saying anything happens, but you will see reports that indicate Stoneman made a serious effort.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

Not this season
.288/.366/.412. He might still be one, but he's awfully streaky.

Slow-hand Bill
I sez he won't do squat. The obvious position to uprade is 3B, but there are zero obvious solutions there. You can't move G.A., you won't move Reggie or Vlad or GMJ or Kotch, and Juan's coming back some day, so DH is off-limits.

I think the only outside chance of anything happening are if A) G.A. goes down for the season right now & we can find a legitimate slugger w/a short-term contract, or B) Napoli's hurt much worse than thought, so we trade for Mike Lieberthal or something.

Make mine a double
Not only will Stoneman do nothing, he'll have his cellphone turned off.  What are the impressive late-season pickups?

Please
Phone turned off?  Are you for real?

He TRADED for Tejada.

I guess that pales in comparison to the likes of Lugo, and Betemit.

That would have been his first midseason pickup
of significance of his career with the Angels.  I'm standing my ground.  (Yes, I'm exaggerating a bit with that comment, but the Angels have damn near zero chance of picking up anybody.)

And this season
Is a direct result of his refusal to make those kinds of trades. So I say do your thing and stand firm, Stoneman.

Let's don't forget

that he did trade away Randy Johnson from Montreal for Mark Langston when he was a wee bit younger. Then, of course, Mark left as a free agent to go to the Angels.

He claims that he learned from that episode.

Speaking of RJ
Remember a couple years ago when people were demanding a trade for Randy Johnson?

low trade possibilities
Wood and DMac are on the way for 3B in 2008.

Speier and Resop are going to solidify the bullpen this year.

only thing i can see is perhaps Mathis holds his own, and some one desperate for a catcher will over pay for Molina.

wood and dmac
totally forgot about those guys, any one think mcpherson will amount to anything?

He's still relatively young
And what he's done while healthy is impressive. They'll give him a shot next season to see what he can do with a full 162 (or thereabouts) while healthy, and if he doesn't cut it then, then it's bye bye Dallas. I think. I've still got a bad feeling about moving Wood to 3B.

minor league player of the year
homerun off randy johnson, and then a stolen base. man he has potential, and no one has stopped believing, but yes he is awaiting his last chance.

dmac will be a player
maybe not for us but he'll be good. i hope we give him a legit chance when he's healthy. he'll go hit 35-40 hr's for somebody else and everybody who gave up on him on this site we'll say we never gave him a chance. it would probably be good for him to play in japan so he could hit off-speed slop better, he's dead red baby.

We don't know about his back, though
If he's as healthy as he was before, he'll be useful (he's got a lifetime SLG of nearly .500 against RHP already). If he's more healthy, he could still be a very good player. But spinal fusion is pretty severe.

I'd just like to note
that Garrett Atkins has reverted back to his 2006 form for the last month now, and batted over .300 with 8 homers in June.  His horrible May (.188) could keep his asking price down.  He's definitely of potential interest to me.
