Bart's been real bad for 22 months now.
In mid-September 2005, after his first 29 starts of the season, Bartolo Colon was 19-6 with 3.23 ERA in 200 innings, well on his way to a Cy Young Award. But he looked hurt that fall, and faded.
Since Sept. 15, 2005, in 30 starts (including two in the 2005 playoffs), he's gone 7-9 with a 5.80 ERA in just 166 innings. That's only 5.5 innings per start. That's some stinky baseball.
His arm strength says to me that he's no longer hurt, at least not in his arm or shoulder. Dude just looks fat and stiff as hell, like he can't bend his back to keep his pitches down, and is even more of a short-armer than ever before.
My feeling up until now has been: let's give him a long leash, in case he Figures It Out again, at which point we'll have the best #4 pitcher in baseball. But now I'm no longer so sure that he has an It to Figure Out. That leads us to the poll:
